Xuan Hoang - Quang An - March 31, 2024 09:03
(Baonghean.vn) - At this time, localities in Nghe An organize vaccinations against spring diseases for livestock and rabies. We had the opportunity to follow the vaccination teams in villages and hamlets, feeling their hardships and difficulties.

No household left behind

One day at the end of March, we had the opportunity to join the organizationvaccinationrabies and disease prevention for buffaloes and cows in Tan Da hamlet, Ky Tan commune, Tan Ky district. At exactly 7:00 a.m. on March 29, Tan Da hamlet established 2 vaccination teams, each team of 7 people, assigned to vaccinate according to each residential area.

Our team went along, led by Mr. Dang Quang Nguyen, an agricultural land officer of the commune, along with the Party cell secretary, head of the hamlet's Fatherland Front, head of the farmers' association, village team leader and local veterinary officer.

After assigning each member a task, the whole team went to each house, together with the owner of the house, to capture the dog and use ropes to tie the buffalo horns tightly to the barn for injection. That was all their job, but it required many people, because sometimes they had to chase the dog and use ropes to tie down the big, strong buffaloes to get the injection.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha - Secretary of Tan Da hamlet Party Cell said: Since the previous afternoon, the hamlet has announced on the loudspeaker system so that every family knows the plan.dog rabies vaccinationand to prevent cattle and buffalo diseases, every household proactively locked and chained their pets at home this morning. When the vaccination team arrived, the homeowner kept the dog for the animal health officer to vaccinate. In case any dog could not be chained, the force used pliers to catch it. After the vaccination, the households received a pet vaccination certificate. All costs: vaccines, remuneration... were fully borne by the homeowner.

According to our records, most families in Tan Da hamlet keep 2-3 dogs. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thanh's family in Tan Da hamlet has 3 adult dogs. When the vaccination team arrived, the family chained all the dogs in the corner of the yard. After the vaccination, the family paid 90,000 VND (a dose of rabies vaccine for dogs costs 30,000 VND) and received a vaccination certificate.

Mr. Bui Van Mao's family, also in Tan Da hamlet, has 3 dogs, 1 buffalo, and 1 calf. Except for the young calf, which is not vaccinated, the other 1 buffalo and 3 dogs are all vaccinated. Mr. Mao said that every year his family raises buffalo and many dogs, however, when the hamlet organizes vaccinations, the family fully complies with veterinary regulations.

After a session with the animal vaccination team of Tan Da hamlet, it was found that every family proactively locked up and chained their dogs, buffaloes, and cows to ensure the vaccination time. For households that had a reason to not be at home, the team recorded everything so that they could get additional vaccinations the next day. However, the team members had a hard time because many dogs and buffaloes were aggressive and had to use professional measures to vaccinate them, while the remuneration was low.

Mr. Trinh Huy Toan - Chairman of Ky Tan Commune People's Committee said: Following the direction of the district, the Commune People's Committee has issued a plan to vaccinate against rabies and epidemics for livestock in the Spring crop of 2024. Accordingly, Ky Tan has developed a specific vaccination schedule for each hamlet, in order to arrange appropriate monitoring and supervision staff, with the motto of not missing any households. The commune's plan is to organize vaccination from March 20 to April 15.

"Like previous years, Ky Tan vaccinated 70-80% of the herd against foot-and-mouth disease and septicemia, and 100% of the herd against rabies," added Mr. Trinh Huy Toan.

Director of Tan Ky District Agricultural Service Center, Mr. Le Duc Tinh, said: Tan Ky has a total herd of more than 33 thousand buffaloes and cows, more than 52 thousand pigs and more than 33 thousand dogs. The district's plan for this spring crop is to inject 15 thousand doses.foot and mouth disease, septicemia vaccine for buffalo and cattleand more than 30 thousand doses of dog rabies vaccine. By March 28, all 22/22 communes and towns in the district had received 4,350 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine and 5,400 doses of cattle and buffalo erysipelas vaccine; 2,850 doses of dog rabies vaccine.

For vaccines against diseases for pigs, localities do not register, farmers inject themselves and report to local authorities. Tan Ky will finish vaccinating livestock against diseases on April 15.

"The advantage of Tan Ky is that the localities have arranged enough commune veterinary positions, so it is convenient to deploy vaccination. As of March 29, a number of communes have deployed quite a lot of vaccinations: Ky Tan, Ky Son, Phu Son, Nghia Dung, Nghia Hop, town... in which, there are localities with high vaccination rates, especially rabies vaccines for dogs", said Mr. Le Duc Tinh.

Strive to vaccinate 80% or more of the total herd

Nghe An currently has 800,000 buffaloes and cows, 1 million pigs and 400,000 dogs. In 2023, some localities have a high rate of vaccinated livestock such as: Do Luong, Nam Dan, Nghia Dan, Hung Nguyen... However, there are still some localities with a low vaccination rate for livestock, from 20 - 50%, such as: Nghi Loc, Thanh Chuong, Hoang Mai town, Vinh city...

In order to limit the occurrence of epidemics in livestock, one of the most important solutions is to fully vaccinate livestock. In early March 2024, the Provincial People's Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 1537/UBND-NN on focusing on directing and strictly implementing vaccination for livestock in 2024.

Accordingly, vaccination is organized twice a year in the spring and fall. For cattle, vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease, anthrax and lumpy skin disease is given; for pigs, vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease, anthrax and swine fever is given; for goats and sheep, vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease is given; for dogs and cats, vaccination against rabies is given.

Localities compile total herd data and register the need for vaccines to be purchased in the spring crop, with vaccination periods from March 15 to April 15, 2024. For rabies vaccines for dogs and cats and lumpy skin disease for buffalo and cows, only one injection is required per year.

For districts receiving vaccine support under the National Target Program and according to provincial policies, deploy vaccination of all submitted and provided vaccines. In case there is not enough vaccine, localities will direct breeders to buy or arrange funds to buy more to vaccinate 80% or more of the total herd./.
