Heavy rains caused by the remnants of Typhoon No. 11 have resulted in flooding in over 100 locations in Hanoi. Residents can monitor the flooding situation in Hanoi online at over 100 locations here.

According to weather forecasts and observations, the remnants of Typhoon Matmo (Typhoon No. 11) caused an extremely heavy rainfall in Hanoi. The rain lasted for many hours, resulting in severe flooding in hundreds of areas.

This morning, the city recorded more than 122 flooded areas, including nearly 30 roads that were completely paralyzed and impassable.

Areas were commonly flooded with water levels ranging from 30–50 cm, and in some places, the water rose to 1 meter. The rain coincided with the morning rush hour, causing severe traffic congestion on many roads, making it difficult for people to travel, and numerous motorbikes broke down, forcing people to push them through the floodwaters.

Among the flooded areas in Hanoi, many central streets and major traffic arteries were severely affected, such as Thang Long Boulevard, Nguyen Trai, Vo Chi Cong, Tran Cung, Do Duc Duc, Tran Binh, Phan Van Truong, Huynh Thuc Khang, Le Duc Tho, To Hieu, Bui Xuong Trach, Thuy Khue, Cu Loc, Ngoc Lam, Lieu Giai, and Nguyen Hoang.

Most notably, a section of Nguyen Trai street (Thanh Xuan ward) was flooded to a depth of one meter, making it impassable for vehicles.

In the Do Duc Duc, Me Tri Thuong, and Trung Van areas, many places were flooded with water exceeding the height of motorbike seats, forcing people to wade through waist-deep water to push their vehicles through. Floating debris covered the roads, making the water murky and posing a danger to pedestrians.

From 5:30 a.m., Thang Long Boulevard was submerged in water, the road surface completely invisible. Many early commuters were forced to turn back because they could not navigate the deeply flooded sections.

"It was pouring rain from the sky, and the ground was flooded with water, almost up to the wheels. Anyone who tried to drive would immediately break down," a resident of Nam Tu Liem district shared.

Heavy rains coincided with school rush hour and commuters leaving for work, paralyzing traffic in Hanoi. Many schools announced days off or switched to online learning.

Based on the experience from the flooding caused by Typhoon Bualoi on September 30th, many Hanoi residents proactively used sandbags, planks, and water barriers to protect their homes and garages. However, the amount of rainfall this time was so heavy that water still flooded into some basements of apartment buildings and private houses.

Many residential areas in Cau Giay, Ha Dong, and Thanh Xuan districts are still "living with the flood," cleaning up water and mud right from the beginning of the week. It is expected that pumping will continue throughout the night to lower water levels across the city's entire drainage system.

According to Hanoi's weather forecast, rain may continue until the morning of October 8th before gradually subsiding. Authorities warn people to limit travel through flooded areas and to monitor the latest weather forecasts to proactively respond.

Hanoi Drainage Company is still operating all pumping stations in Yen So, Dong Bong, Cau Chui, and Mau Luong to lower water levels and ensure traffic returns to normal as soon as possible.
