The self-drive car rental market is quite vibrant, with electric cars being in high demand during the September 2nd holiday.
The five-day National Day holiday on September 2nd has led to a surge in demand for self-drive car rentals in Nghe An. Rental prices for many car models have been adjusted upwards by 15-20% compared to normal days, with electric cars, SUVs, 7-seater MPVs, and electric vehicles being particularly popular choices among customers.
This year's National Day holiday on September 2nd lasts for 5 days, from August 29th to September 2nd. This is also the time when people's demand for returning home and traveling increases, leading to a peak season for self-drive car rentals.
Mr. Tran Hong Quan (26 years old, residing in Thanh Vinh ward) said that his family planned to travel to Da Nang for this year's holiday. However, after considering the cost of air travel, the family decided to rent a self-drive car to have more control over their time and itinerary.
“A round-trip plane ticket for one adult currently costs around 7 million VND and requires two flights. My wife and I alone have spent over 14 million VND on airfare, not including other travel expenses. Meanwhile, for about 1 million VND per day, our family could rent a fully equipped SUV with private space to travel to tourist destinations,” Mr. Quan said.

According to a survey conducted by reporters at several car rental establishments in the former Vinh City, the price of self-drive car rentals during the September 2nd holiday increased by approximately 15-20% compared to normal days, depending on the car model, year, and rental duration.
In the small urban car segment A, such as the Hyundai Grand i10, Toyota Wigo, Kia Morning, Honda Brio, or VinFast Fadil, the daily rental price, which normally ranges from 500,000-600,000 VND/day, has now increased to around 600,000-700,000 VND/day.
Popular B and C-segment sedans like the Toyota Vios, Honda City, and Mazda 3 also saw their parking fees adjusted from 600,000-800,000 VND/day to around 700,000-800,000 VND/day.

Notably, rental prices for high-riding SUVs have seen a more significant increase. Popular models such as the Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Ford Territory, and Kia Sportage are now available for rent at around 1-1.2 million VND per day, compared to the usual price of 800,000 to 1 million VND per day.
Similarly, 7-seater MPVs such as the Mitsubishi Xpander, Hyundai Stargazer, Toyota Veloz, Suzuki XL7, and Honda BR-V also recorded prices of around 900,000-1.1 million VND/day, an increase compared to the usual 700,000-900,000 VND/day.

For electric cars, a survey on the GreenFuture car rental system shows that the VinFast VF 3, VF 5, VF 6, and VF 8 models are priced at approximately 550,000 VND, 700,000 VND, 1.1 million VND, and 1.4 million VND per day, respectively. However, many models are already fully booked for rentals during the holidays.

According to Mr. Nguyen Sy Hung (45 years old, owner of a self-drive car rental business in Thanh Vinh ward), car rental prices usually increase by about 15-20% during holidays, especially for SUV and MPV models.
"Customers renting cars during holidays now not only rent vehicles to return to their hometowns but also combine it with tourism and sightseeing at many locations. Therefore, they often prioritize high-ground clearance, spacious, and newer SUV and MPV models for long journeys. Meanwhile, the supply of vehicles in this category is limited, so rental prices increase according to demand. For smaller cars and popular sedans, the supply is more abundant, so the increase is not too high," Mr. Hung said.

According to Mr. Hung, the demand for car rentals this year has changed quite significantly; customers are no longer focusing solely on gasoline-powered vehicles as before, but are increasingly prioritizing electric cars.
“Customers are now more concerned about the cost of use. Electric vehicles have the advantage of low operating costs, a smooth ride, and are suitable for families traveling during holidays. Some customers who previously only rented gasoline cars are now proactively inquiring about and switching to electric vehicles to experience the benefits and save on overall trip costs,” Mr. Hung said.

Experts advise that even though car rental procedures in 2026 have been digitized and simplified, renters should still carefully read the contract, especially the regulations regarding insurance, daily mileage limits, and any potential additional charges.
When renting electric vehicles, renters also need to clarify the charging policy and battery level upon pickup and return, and proactively research the charging station network along their route, especially when planning long-distance travel during holidays.
