An unexpected deal at age 41.
FC Porto has officially announced the signing of veteran Brazilian central defender Thiago Silva. The contract runs until the end of the current season, with an option to extend for another year. This announcement comes just days after Silva and Fluminense agreed to terminate his contract six months early.
In his introductory video for his new team, the 41-year-old center-back couldn't hide his excitement: "I'm very motivated and eager to contribute as much as possible to the team."

On his personal Instagram page, Thiago Silva also expressed his deep gratitude to his former club Fluminense: "The time we spent together was shorter than we expected, but it was deep enough to become memories I will cherish for a lifetime. I am sincerely grateful to the club, the coaching staff, my teammates, and especially the fans."
The dream of the 2026 World Cup.
Despite being past his prime, Thiago Silva still harbors great ambitions. According to Brazilian media, his main goal upon returning to Europe is to maintain his peak form in order to have a chance of being called up to the national team for the 2026 World Cup. He previously shared that signing with Fluminense was also aimed at ending his career with a complete World Cup appearance.

To date, Thiago Silva has made 113 appearances for the Brazilian national team and has participated in the last four consecutive World Cups. His experience and class are still considered a valuable asset to any team.
The comeback journey of a legend.
This isn't Thiago Silva's first stint with FC Porto. He was a member of the team during the 2004/05 season, but back then he played in the second division. After returning to his hometown to play for Fluminense, his career took off dramatically.
Silva rose to become one of the world's best central defenders while playing for top European clubs such as AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea. The pinnacle of his career was winning the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea in 2021. This return to Porto concludes an impressive career cycle for the Brazilian defender.
