Is there a water shortage for the Lach Van fishing port?

(Baonghean.vn) - Regarding the information "Fishermen wash fish with water from the Lach Van River because there is no clean water," Mr. Nguyen Huu Tho - Director of Nghe An Fishing Port, stated that: The water source is unstable and there is no funding to provide clean water for fishermen to use at Lach Van fishing port.

Every day, up to 200 fishing boats from Dien Chau district enter and leave Lach Van fishing port. Because the boats are small, the seafood caught consists mostly of shrimp and mixed fish, which have low economic value. Daily, 600-700 people come and go to buy seafood for distribution. However, a major concern is that although the port has been equipped with a clean water supply system, there is no water, forcing fishermen to wash their seafood with river water.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, a seafood trader at Lach Van fishing port, said: "The people here want clean water to wash the fish right at the port. Because there's no clean water, after buying the fish, they carry it all down to the river to wash it. Those who are careful wash it again at home with clean water before taking it to the market, otherwise they just take it straight to the market. The river water is polluted daily by waste from the fishing port and boats, making it smelly and unpleasant."

Speaking with us, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tho, Director of Nghe An Fishing Port, stated that the reason for the problem is the unstable water supply from the plant and the lack of funding to provide clean water at the fishing port. He added that the unit will seek solutions to provide water for the local people. If the government does not provide support, they will be forced to collect fees from the people, but this will be difficult due to the limited number of management personnel at the port.

However, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Ngoc commune, stated that the Dien Chau water plant, located in Dien Ngoc commune, was built in 2008 with a capacity of 2,000 m³.³The plant provides water daily to 1,500 households in three communes: Dien Thanh, Dien Ngoc, and Dien Bich. Therefore, the plant is not operating at full capacity, only reaching 50%. The plant's water source is taken from the Bung River, ensuring its operation even during the summer months. Over the years, the plant has provided a stable supply of clean water to the people.

Therefore, the claim by the leadership of Nghe An Fishing Port that the water source from the plant is unstable is unfounded; and the unit needs to quickly find solutions to ensure a clean water supply for the people at Lach Van fishing port.
