Türkiye buys S 400 from Russia, US warns of risks
Pentagon chief James Mattis has warned of the risks of Türkiye's purchase of Russia's S-400 "Triumph" air defense missile system.

He cast doubt on the S-400's compatibility with NATO equipment at a press conference on July 14.
"The issue is compatibility of NATO systems with Russian systems? They will never work together," Mr. Mattis said, noting that the US Defense Department needs to wait and see how Türkiye will use the Russian air defense missile system.
Asked whether the US would approve Türkiye's purchase of the systems, Mattis said it was Ankara's "sovereign decision."
