A Russia-US agreement is necessary to resolve the Ukraine conflict.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister noted that the existence of a direct communication channel between Russian and American leaders makes the whole world safer.

According to TASS on July 24, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, in an interview with TASS, stated that a comprehensive agreement between Moscow and Washington is necessary to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
"As I understand it, this conflict has only one solution, requiring a comprehensive agreement between the US and Russia. Therefore, we are always open to receiving information about high-level contacts between Russia and the US, whether at the presidential or ministerial level," the Hungarian diplomat said.
Mr. Szijjarto noted that "the presence of a direct channel of communication between Russian and American leaders would make the whole world safer. Without such a dialogue, the world would become less safe. We hope that US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will continue to interact and exchange views with each other," said Foreign Minister Szijjarto.
Furthermore, Szijjiarto stated that many member states of the European Union are hindering efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
"Unfortunately, many European leaders are hindering peace efforts. They may advocate for a peaceful solution in words, but in reality they are adding fuel to the fire of this conflict. Hungary has been campaigning for a ceasefire and peace negotiations for the past 3.5 years. Throughout that time, except for the last two months, the rest of Europe has criticized Hungary for this," said Foreign Minister Szijjiarto.
He stated that Budapest has not and will not supply weapons to Ukraine, and Hungary does not want to be involved in this conflict.
"Hungary has never supplied weapons to Ukraine, and we will not supply weapons to Ukraine in the future. As long as our government remains in power, our goal is for Hungary to stay out of this conflict and not participate in it," the Hungarian Foreign Minister emphasized.
Mr. Szijjarto noted that Hungary "will not allocate any financial resources to supply weapons to Kyiv" and will not participate in the support that NATO member states provide to Ukraine.
