Bad weather, hundreds of passengers stranded at Vinh airport
(Baonghean.vn) - At noon on January 6, some passengers at Vinh International Airport requested to return their Vietjet Air tickets to buy tickets from other airlines or take a bus to finish their work in Ho Chi Minh City.
All were passengers of Vietjet Air flight VJ221, scheduled to depart from Vinh at 11:10 p.m. on January 5 and arrive at around 0:55 a.m. on January 6. However, the plane has yet to take off.
Mr. Ha Buu Khoa (born in 1989, from Binh Dinh) is working at Nghi Son Oil Refinery (Thanh Hoa) and has urgent business so he asked for 3 days off. According to the plan, after arriving in Ho Chi Minh City, on the evening of January 6, Mr. Khoa will fly back to work tomorrow (January 7).
“I had an important matter to attend to on the morning of January 6, so I had to buy a plane ticket urgently. On the afternoon of January 5, after finishing everything, I rushed to Vinh airport with the hope of getting to Ho Chi Minh City in time. But up to now, I am still waiting here,” Mr. Khoa was upset.
Mr. Khoa said that on the evening of January 5, Vietjet Air announced that due to bad weather, the plane could not take off, so the flight was canceled. At this time, some customers began to feel upset, but seeing that Vietjet had implemented support plans and arranged cars to take passengers to hotels to sleep overnight, everyone advised each other to accept it because they could not go anyway.
On the morning of January 6, passengers went back to Vinh airport to wait, but Vietjet Air continued to announce that they could not take off until 5:35 p.m. The flight delay and missed work made many passengers lose their composure and demanded that their tickets be returned to the airline.

“I thought I could fly, but I had to struggle until the evening, and by then I don’t know if I can fly again. I’ve missed everything, I just feel sorry for the children and the elderly,” said one passenger.
Discussing the incident, a representative of Vietjet Air said that due to bad weather, there were no conditions for the aircraft to take off and land in Vinh. Previously, flight VJ220 from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh on January 5, which had a departure time of 9:30 p.m. the same day, was also unable to land and had to divert to Noi Bai airport (Hanoi).
Vietjet Air reminds passengers to regularly update flight information on the website www.vietjetair.com, in the “Flight Information” section. Here, passengers can check their ticket “code”, look up complete and accurate information about the flight route and flight time to proactively adjust their travel schedule.
It is forecasted that today, the weather conditions in Vinh will be complicated, possibly affecting the operation of flights to and from this airport.
