Quang Ninh announces a $2 billion integrated tourism project in Van Don.
The Quang Ninh Provincial Economic Zone Management Board has just announced a bidding process to select an investor for a high-end integrated tourism service complex in the Van Don Economic Zone, covering a total area of over 244 hectares, of which 182 hectares are allocated for functional areas such as casinos, hotels, resort villas, parks, and tourism services.
The project, located in the Ao Tien area of Ha Long commune, has a minimum total investment of $2 billion, a maximum operating period of 70 years, and a construction schedule of 9 years.
The goal is to build a high-end tourism, resort, and entertainment complex, hosting international events, including a casino, shopping mall, hotels, resorts, and high-quality sports and healthcare services.
However, allowing Vietnamese citizens to gamble in casinos is only permitted when strict legal regulations are met.
Currently, Vietnam has nine legally operating casinos nationwide, located in various provinces. These casinos include Do Son in Hai Phong, Loi Lai, Hoang Gia, and Hong Van in Quang Ninh, Lao Cai, Silver Shores in Da Nang, Ho Tram in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Nam Hoi An in Quang Nam, and Phu Quoc in Kien Giang.
Of these, Corona Casino Phu Quoc is the only project that has allowed Vietnamese citizens to participate since 2019. Vietnamese players must be at least 21 years old, have a minimum income of 10 million VND/month, a clean record, and purchase an entrance ticket costing 1 million VND/day or 25 million VND/month. Other casinos only serve foreign customers or Vietnamese citizens holding foreign passports.
According to the financial report, Corona Phu Quoc casino achieved revenue of over 1.13 trillion VND in 2024, equivalent to 3 billion VND per day, a decrease of 64% compared to 2023. Gross profit reached approximately 605 billion VND, after the cost of goods sold decreased by 29% to 525 billion VND.
