After the 10th grade entrance exam, Nam Dan 2 High School lacked enrollment quotas so it announced additional enrollment and only 1 student with 2.5 points was still eligible for admission.

School lacks quota

Nam Dan 2 High School has just announced the second round of admission scores for grade 10. Candidates only need 2.5 points/3 subjects (including priority and incentive points, if any) to be admitted.

When reading this information, on social networking sites, some opinions were skeptical whether this was due to a "typing" error, "mistake", some opinions said, "if it is this score, there is no need to study, no need to take the exam", too inappropriate.

Through discussion, teacher Pham Xuan Phu - Principal of Nam Dan 2 High School confirmed that the school's second round admission standard score is 2.5 points, 7 points lower than the first round admission standard score.

The principal of Nam Dan 2 High School also said that the low admission score was predicted. Specifically, in the 2025-2026 school year, the school was assigned by the Department of Education and Training to enroll 10 classes with 450 students. However, when the application deadline expired, the school only had 419 applications to take the entrance exam, so the Department adjusted the enrollment target down to 400.

Teacher Pham Xuan Phu added: After the entrance examGrade 10, because students were allowed to change their wishes, the number of applications submitted to the school increased to 442 applications and the school increased the quota again to 450 students. After the end of the first round of enrollment, there was still a shortage of quotas, so the school announced additional enrollment. Because the number of remaining applications was not large, according to the enrollment regulations, candidates who did not violate the exam regulations and did not have a failing score would have their scores taken from top to bottom, and each student would be accepted until the quota was met. With a score of 2.5 points, there are currently 31 candidates eligible for admission, of which only 1 student had a score of 2.5 points and the school still lacked 12 students compared to the assigned quota.

Talking about the quality of this year's admission, teacher Pham Xuan Phu expressed his concern, because according to him, "if the child is healthy, the mother will be better, if the child is sick, the mother will have to work harder and take better care of him". According to statistics, out of more than 400 students entering the school this year, the number of students with an average score of 5 points per subject accounts for about 52% of the school's students, the top student in the admission is a student from Khanh Son Secondary School with 27.75 points.

The Principal of Nam Dan 2 High School also added that, in addition to the 2024-2025 school year, the admission score to the school was exceptionally high at 13.2 points when for the first time the school had 720 students registering for the exam (including many students from Hung Nguyen district and the old Vinh city); in previous years, the admission score to the school was only 7-9 points and was in the bottom group of the province. The school's enrollment area is mainly in the communes of Khanh Son, Nam Kim, Nam Trung, Nam Cuong, and Nam Phuc (belonging to the old Nam Dan district).

Many schools recruit additional quotas

In addition to Nam Dan 2 High School, before this year's enrollment season, a number of public schools in the old Nam Dan district had to "take action" to invite students to register for the school due to concerns that there would not be enough students to register for the exam.

There are two reasons for this: first, the number of 9th graders in the area has decreased by 500 students; second, nearly 600 students in Nam Dan have registered for NV1 in non-public schools, continuing education centers, or in Hung Nguyen district (old) to take the exam. If we exclude these students, in reality, public schools in Nam Dan are short of nearly 170 applications, and this is the reason why this school year, all schools have lowered their admission scores and had to "sweep" down to the last student.

This reality also happened to Nguyen Sy Sach High School (formerly Thanh Chuong district) when the school announced the first round of admission scores as 5.75 points. According to teacher Tran Dinh Hien - the school's principal, "this is an unprecedentedly low score" but the school still had to recruit the last candidate, because this year the school had 450 targets but only 411 students took the exam.

For this reason, this year, the school has asked for permission from the Department to enroll students “beyond the barrier”. Specifically, in addition to students who have registered to take the entrance exam, the school will recruit an additional 42 students who have taken the 10th grade entrance exam and wish to study at the school. The admission score will be calculated from top to bottom until the quota is filled.

Similarly, Dang Thai Mai High School (formerly Thanh Chuong District) also announced an additional enrollment of 15 students who have not been admitted to grade 10 of high schools in the province. Previously, the admission score to the school was only 10.75 points.

The low benchmark score was also predicted in this year's enrollment season when many schools in the province, including many top schools, also lowered their benchmark scores by 3-4 points compared to the 2024-2025 school year. The reason is that this year, the number of students in the whole province decreased by nearly 5,000 students. Meanwhile, the Department still kept the enrollment target for grade 10 the same as previous years so as not to disrupt the team, affect the scale of schools and classes and increase opportunities for students to enter public grade 10.

This is also a preparation step to facilitate schools and candidates, because according to forecasts from the 2026-2027 school year, the number of students taking the 10th grade entrance exam in Nghe An province will increase dramatically and the race to enter public 10th grade will be much more difficult.

Regarding the issue of many schools having low benchmark scores, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Head of Secondary Education Department, Nghe An Department of Education and Training, said: After students registered for the 10th grade entrance exam, the whole province had 11 public schools with the number of registered students lower than the target. However, the exam is still conducted by schools with the purpose of assessing quality and allowing students to take the exam to get a base score to enter specialized schools or increase their chances of being admitted to other public schools (after they change their wishes).

Therefore, in these schools, many schools have to take all the students on the list to meet the enrollment quota. Regarding the quality of admission to grade 10, because the grade 10 exam must be differentiated for schools to consider admission, as a basis for admission to Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and boarding schools, the results of the grade 10 entrance exam are not uniform for all candidates.

However, according to provincial statistics, this year, the average score The average score of the subjects is quite good. Specifically, the average score of Literature is 7.17; Math is 5.66 and Foreign Language is 5.06. The average score of the whole province is 17.89 points. The average score of Nam Dan 2 High School is 15.03 points, of which: Math is 4.68, Literature is 6.58 and Foreign Language is 3.74 points./.
