Having studied at an agricultural vocational school and regularly watching agricultural extension programs on television and in newspapers, Mr. Lien has accumulated a lot of experience in caring for crops and livestock. He grows a variety of crops, but red-fleshed dragon fruit is the most economically profitable. Four years ago, Mr. Lien planted 420 dragon fruit trees imported from Binh Thuan province on an area of ​​more than 7 acres.

Mr. Lien said: "You only need to invest in the seedlings initially, and in subsequent seasons, you can produce cuttings on-site to propagate them. Red-fleshed dragon fruit grows well, is easy to care for, and is popular in the market. Especially, it is not susceptible to pests and diseases, so there is no need to use pesticides, saving a lot of costs and effort compared to other crops."

However, growing dragon fruit also presents some challenges. The investment cost for concrete supports is high. In addition, the trees can be broken by strong winds and storms. In hot, dry weather, flood irrigation is necessary to ensure the soil has enough moisture for the trees to grow well.

Dragon fruit trees yield six harvests a year, with each harvest lasting two months. With over 400 trees, each harvest averages nearly 1 ton of fruit. This year, Mr. Lien harvested over 5 tons of red-fleshed dragon fruit. At an average price of 25,000 - 35,000 VND/kg, this brings in nearly 200 million VND in income annually.

Currently, traders come directly to the orchard to buy the fruit, so Mr. Lien is very confident about the market. He harvests gradually each day and sells 300 kg of fruit. He said that in the near future he will expand the area for growing dragon fruit to have a more abundant supply to sell to other provinces and districts.

The dragon fruit orchard brings in hundreds of millions of dong for Mr. Lien's family.
