Specifically, Moleek Day Cream, Adel Miracle Flawless Serum, and Ah Beauty Night Cream were found to contain mercury; NDZ UV Whitening contained hydroquinone; while Snow Cream Normal, Snow Cream Sensitif, Dnars Nar Cream Sensitif, and Ellfie Night Cream contained both hydroquinone and tretinoin.
Noor Hisham Abdullah, a representative of the Malaysian Ministry of Health, stated that products containing mercury are often advertised as skin-brightening and anti-aging but can cause kidney and nervous system damage.
Mercury also affects brain development in fetuses and infants. Meanwhile, hydroquinone and tretinoin can be used medically but must be registered with the Drug Administration. Hydroquinone inhibits the formation of skin pigment and reduces protection against ultraviolet rays, increasing the risk of cancer.
According to Thanh Nien's research, Malaysian cosmetics currently entering Vietnam are not numerous and not widely available. Searching online and conducting a preliminary survey of a few cosmetics stalls in markets, initial findings do not reveal any information about the aforementioned banned product lines in Vietnam.
