The top-scoring student in Chemistry in 9th grade shares his self-study secrets.
(Baonghean.vn) - Nguyen Nhat Minh, a 9th-grade student from Cao Xuan Huy Secondary School, has become a source of pride for his family and the Dien Chau Education Department as one of the three top scorers in Chemistry in the recent 9th-grade excellent student selection exam.
For Nguyen Nhat Minh, the spirit of self-learning is one of the most important factors in acquiring knowledge, alongside the knowledge imparted by teachers.
From a young age, Nhat Minh displayed intelligence and a thirst for knowledge. For eight consecutive years, he was an excellent student. In particular, when he began studying Chemistry in the 8th grade, Minh became fascinated with the subject because it helped him explain many phenomena and events that occurred in his daily life.
Teachers and friends were impressed by Minh's ability to learn independently, always setting clear goals and directions for himself. Besides that, Minh was also loved for his humility, kindness, and sociability.
Regarding her study secrets, Minh shared: “Self-study is one of the most important factors in acquiring knowledge. The knowledge taught by teachers in class is crucial. Therefore, in class, I always try to thoroughly understand the knowledge imparted by the teachers. For parts I don't understand, I study and research related knowledge on my own to gain a clearer and deeper understanding.”
Minh lives in Minh Chau commune, nearly 10 km from the school, but he has never been late for class. His father is a soldier often away from home, and his mother works at a charity fund, so they have little time to care for and pay attention to Minh's studies. However, thanks to his self-study spirit, he always proactively completes his studies without his parents having to remind him.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh, Minh's mother, said: "Our family always encourages our son to study, providing him with good reference materials; we don't encourage him to study by rote, but rather to pursue his passions and interests. We always create a relaxed and comfortable learning environment, without pressure or coercion, so we see him studying more and more effectively."
With such guidance from his parents, Minh managed his study time effectively. He studied from 7 PM to 11 PM. In the mornings, he woke up at 5 AM to memorize and research the day's lessons. The rest of the time, he rested, read books, and participated in sports activities.
With her own efforts, encouragement from family and friends, and the guidance of her teachers, Minh has achieved many academic successes. Specifically, her overall Chemistry grade is 9.9-10 out of 10, and she is an excellent student in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English, and Literature. Furthermore, she has won numerous awards in competitions such as TIMO Mathematics and the Online English Olympiad.
In his studies, Nhat Minh always diligently thinks for himself to find his own path, not following pre-determined solutions. With a particular passion for Chemistry, he is determined to pass the entrance exam to the specialized Chemistry class at Phan Boi Chau High School for Gifted Students.
Commenting on his student, teacher Dang Xuan Long said: “In the school's Chemistry team, all eight students won awards. Besides the top student, the team also had three students who won second prize, two who won third prize, and two who received honorable mentions. Minh's achievement is a source of pride for class 9B as well as the school. He is an intelligent, passionate, and creative student. As a student from a distant place studying at the school, Minh faced many more difficulties than other students, but he always strived to overcome them. He applied his learned knowledge to explain natural phenomena in a very systematic way. What stands out about him is his high level of self-study, diligence, and willingness to share and help his friends to progress together. His achievement is an inspiration that will help spread the spirit of hard work to future generations of students at the school.”
In the 2023-2024 provincial-level excellent student competition for 9th graders in Dien Chau district, 94 students participated in 10 subjects, and 76 students won prizes in all subjects. This included 3 first prizes, 30 second prizes, 20 third prizes, and 23 consolation prizes, ranking 4th in the province.
In this competition, Cao Xuan Huy Secondary School had 42 students winning awards, accounting for 55% of the top-performing students in the entire district. Besides Nguyen Nhat Minh - the top scorer in Chemistry, Cao Thi Hoa won first prize in Geography, 19 students won second prize, 13 students won third prize, and 8 students received honorable mentions. The school ranked second in the province in this competition. The school will hold a ceremony to commend the achievements of the award-winning students.
