Among the times he faced dangerous criminals, Lieutenant Colonel Dang Hai Trieu still cannot forget the feeling when he faced drug lord Nguyen The Duoc (born in 1974), residing in block 19, Cua Nam ward, Vinh city (Nghe An) more than 10 years ago. As one of the important links in the transnational drug trafficking ring from Laos to Vietnam, Duoc had a close relationship with "boss" Hai "Luan" in the ring of buying and selling 180 heroin cakes. Duoc was very cunning, had many tricks to deceive the authorities, so even when his "predecessors" were caught one by one, Duoc was still at large.
At around 3am on February 23, 2004, while conducting an armed patrol on Phong Dinh Cang Street, in Truong Thi Ward (Vinh City), Dang Hai Trieu discovered a young man acting suspiciously when he threw a black sack on the side of the road. Together with his teammates, he successfully subdued the subject, and when he was brought to the mobile police headquarters, he was shocked to see that inside the sack were 30 heroin cakes. Even more surprising was that the young man was none other than Nguyen The Duoc, with the courage of a transnational drug trafficker, he brazenly carried 30 heroin cakes in the middle of the street. However, this "boss" had to lose when he encountered his "nemesis" Dang Hai Trieu.
In early 2012, Mr. Duc, a director of a construction company with a private home in Vinh City, called the 113 Police Command Center for help when his former employee, Ho Huu Khang (born in 1962), residing in Quynh Luu District (Nghe An), came to his house with 8 mines in a pre-activated briefcase and blackmailed him for 150 million VND.
After getting involved, realizing that the subject was very reckless and reckless, Lieutenant Colonel Dang Hai Trieu, who was then Deputy Police Team 113, decided to "solve the case" with option two, which was to ask the homeowner to prepare money to give to the subject to "lure" him away from the city center with the mine. As planned, after receiving the money, Khang took the mine with him, jumped into a taxi and drove straight to his private home in Quynh Chau commune, Quynh Luu district, more than 80km from the crime scene.
Throughout the journey, Dang Hai Trieu and another colleague persistently followed him on a motorbike. When the subject stopped the vehicle and rolled down the window to give money to his wife, they immediately rushed up. One of them quickly grabbed the briefcase containing 8 bars that he had activated, while the other promptly approached and subdued the subject right in the taxi, much to the surprise of the subject himself and those around him.
