Observations show that on the roads of the orange area in Quy Hop, there are many piles of orange roots that have just been dug up and dried for firewood. Locals said that the oranges were seriously infected, so people had to dig them up to plant other trees.
It is known that recently, the Plant Protection Institute (Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences) has tested soil samples in the Quy Hop orange growing area, showing that the soil is infected with some fungi that cause diseases on orange trees beyond the allowable threshold.
Mr. Quan Vi Giang - Vice Chairman of Quy Hop District People's Committee said: After receiving the results of testing soil samples for orange growing in key orange growing communes from the Plant Protection Institute, the District People's Committee recommended that people in two communes: Minh Hop and Nghia Xuan stop planting new oranges. Orange growers need to change crops, rotate crops to improve the soil within 3-5 years, then replant oranges with disease-free orange varieties.
