The treasurer who embezzled 828 million VND only received a warning.
Despite embezzling over 828 million VND from the school, the female treasurer only received a warning from the school principal.
On September 26, Mr. Luu Ngoc Dong, Chief Inspector of Hau Giang province, announced that he had signed the inspection report regarding violations at Hau Giang Economic and Technical College.
Specifically, Ms. Vo Thi Kim Thy, the school's treasurer, embezzled 828 million VND by failing to remit tuition fees from students in joint programs to the school, and also forged the signatures of the principal and accountant to withdraw the money.
Ms. Thy took 100 million VND of the embezzled money and deposited it in the bank, earning 17.5 million VND in interest.

Following Ms. Thy's misconduct, the principal of Hau Giang Economic and Technical College, Le Van Phi, signed a decision to discipline her with a "warning." The school's Party branch also met and recommended disciplinary action in the form of a "warning" from the Party.
Regarding the discussion about Ms. Thy showing signs of violating the Criminal Code but the provincial inspectorate not transferring the case file to the police, Mr. Luu Ngoc Dong said that he had sought the opinion of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Committee on this matter.
Furthermore, Ms. Thy returned 845 million VND (the misappropriated money and bank interest) and showed a sincere attitude... therefore, only administrative action was taken.
However, Mr. Dong recommended disciplinary action, including "dismissal from employment" and "expulsion from the Party," against Ms. Thy. In addition, Mr. Dong also proposed a review of responsibility and disciplinary action against Mr. Phi for negligence in managing and using finances.
Speaking to Tuổi Trẻ newspaper, Ms. Mã Thị Tươi, secretary of the Party Committee of the provincial agencies in Hậu Giang, said that Principal Lê Văn Phi's decision to discipline Ms. Thy with a "warning" was hasty, instead of seeking advice from higher-level management agencies.
“On September 28th, the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the bloc will meet to vote on disciplinary action against Ms. Thy in terms of Party discipline. Regarding administrative matters, since the Department of Education and Training has proposed a ‘warning’ as a disciplinary measure, we will report to the Provincial Party Committee’s Inspection Committee for their opinion on the form of disciplinary action,” Ms. Tươi said.
