(Baonghean.vn) - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe emphasized on January 20th that the US-Japan alliance is a crucial element and an "unchanging principle" in Tokyo's security and foreign policy. Notably, this statement was made just hours before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump.

In his opening remarks at the 150-day regular session of the Japanese Parliament, Prime Minister Abe said: "The U.S.-Japan alliance is the cornerstone of our country's foreign and security policy, in the past, present, and future. This is an unchanging principle."

Prime Minister Abe added that he plans to visit the United States and hold talks with President Trump as soon as possible after Trump's inauguration, in order to further strengthen the alliance. Abe is the first foreign leader to meet with Trump since the US presidential election last November.

The Japanese leader described his country as being at the "center" of a rapidly changing world, pledging to "develop peaceful diplomacy and dynamic economic diplomacy," as several world powers are undergoing a transition of leadership.

Amidst growing concerns about the future foreign policy of the new US administration, Abe affirmed his desire to continue cooperating with the Trump administration and remain a reliable ally of the US in maintaining the world order as it was under outgoing President Obama.

According to the plan, President-elect Trump will be sworn into office at 11:47 AM on January 20th, US time (early morning of January 21st, Vietnam time) at the Capitol building, presided over by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.

The inauguration is expected to be attended by three former US presidents, along with many high-ranking government officials and influential figures, including former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton – Trump's opponent in the presidential election.
