Prime Minister Abe welcomes the US-Japan alliance
(Baonghean.vn)- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on January 20 emphasized that the US-Japan alliance is a key factor and an "unchangeable principle" in Tokyo's security and foreign policy. Notably, this statement was made just hours before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump.
"The US-Japan alliance is the cornerstone of our country's foreign and security policy, past, present and future. This is an unchanging principle," Prime Minister Abe said in his opening speech at the 150-day regular session of the Japanese Parliament.

Prime Minister Abe added that he plans to visit the US and hold talks with Mr Trump as soon as possible after his inauguration, to further strengthen the alliance. Mr Abe is the first foreign leader to meet Mr Trump after the US presidential election last November.
The Japanese leader described the country as being at the “center” of a rapidly changing world, pledging to “develop peaceful diplomacy and dynamic economic diplomacy”, as several world powers are undergoing leadership transitions.
Amid concerns about the future foreign policy of the new US administration, Mr. Abe affirmed his desire to continue to cooperate with the Trump administration and be a reliable ally of the US to maintain the world order as under the outgoing President Obama.

As planned, President-elect Trump will be sworn in at 11:47 a.m. on January 20, US time (early morning of January 21, Vietnam time) at the Capitol building under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts.
The inauguration ceremony is expected to be attended by three former US presidents, many senior government officials and prestigious figures, including former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton - Mr. Trump's opponent in the presidential election.
