The Prime Minister commended supermarkets for using banana leaves instead of plastic bags.
Government leaders are calling on businesses, along with the government and society, to make efforts to minimize the use of plastic bags and plastic waste.
In early April, a number of large supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi switched to using banana leaves to wrap vegetables and food instead of plastic bags. Simultaneously, supermarkets are also competing to use and distribute environmentally friendly packaging products.
In a letter dated April 5th, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc commended supermarkets and businesses for proactively using natural products to wrap and package food as an alternative to plastic bags, thereby protecting the environment.
"This is a practical measure to limit the use and disposal of nylon waste into the environment, making a positive contribution to changing the awareness, responsibility, and habits of using nylon bags among supermarkets and consumers, protecting the living environment, and benefiting the community," the Prime Minister emphasized.
