The Prime Minister recognizes Yen Thanh district as having met the standards for a new rural area.
(Baonghean.vn) - On April 16, Mr. Nguyen Van Hang, Deputy Chief of the Office for Coordinating New Rural Development in Nghe An, announced that the Prime Minister had issued Decision No. 524/QD-TTg recognizing Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province, as having met the standards for New Rural Development in 2019.
To date, Yen Thanh district has met all 9 criteria for a new rural district. After years of continuous efforts, being recognized by the Prime Minister as a new rural district in 2019 is a great honor and source of pride for the Party Committee, government, and people of Yen Thanh district.

Despite being a large district with 39 communes and towns, and ranking third in the province in terms of population with nearly 300,000 people, Yen Thanh district has achieved comprehensive and outstanding results in the 10 years of implementing the National Target Program for building new rural areas.

Over the 10 years of implementing the National Target Program for New Rural Development, Yen Thanh district mobilized 5,475,382 million VND for rural development, of which the people contributed 1,729,964 million VND, accounting for 31.6%. In 2010, only one national and provincial road passed through the district with a length of 20 km; by 2019, there were 3 national and 6 provincial roads with a length of 180 km passing through the district; over 710 km of asphalt and concrete roads were newly constructed; 100% of communes have convenient access roads to their centers; and the internal irrigation and transportation systems have been upgraded.

The economy continues to develop, social security is ensured, and people's living standards are constantly improving: the economic structure is shifting in the right direction; annual budget revenue reaches over 380 billion VND; more than 15,000 workers are working abroad, sending back over 200 million USD annually, contributing to increased income; the poverty rate has decreased to 1.92%; 100% of households use the national power grid. The average per capita income currently reaches 43 million VND/year.

Mr. Phan Van Tuyen, Chairman of the Yen Thanh District People's Committee, stated: Previously, on February 26, 2020, in Hanoi, the Central Appraisal Council reviewed and approved the recognition of Yen Thanh as a new rural district. Accordingly, 100% of the Council members voted to recognize Yen Thanh as a new rural district in 2019. Based on this, the Appraisal Council unanimously submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister to recognize Yen Thanh as a district that met the new rural district standards in 2019.

To date, Yen Thanh district has had 38 out of 38 communes recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as achieving new rural standards, and Yen Thanh town has achieved urban civilization standards. Yen Thanh has also met all 9 criteria for a new rural district, including: planning, transportation, irrigation, health, culture, education, production, environment, security, and social order.
