The Prime Minister witnessed fish living in the Formosa wastewater lake.

This morning, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc led a delegation to inspect environmental protection measures at Formosa Ha Tinh Hung Nghiep Steel Company Limited (FHS).

The delegation included Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, and leaders of Ha Tinh province.

The Prime Minister and his delegation conducted on-site inspections of fish farming in the biological indicator pond, the iron smelting department office, the iron rolling mill area, the hot raw steel rolling mill, and the Formosa port area.

The Prime Minister witnessed the fish being able to survive in the biological indicator lake water environment.

The biological indicator pond is located next to the wastewater treatment plant. After treatment, the wastewater is discharged into this pond, and Formosa uses this water to raise fish. Only if the fish are healthy is the water allowed to be released into the environment.

According to Formosa's report, more than a year after the marine environmental incident, 52 out of 53 violations have been rectified.

As of May 10th, Formosa had completed additional wastewater treatment facilities, monitoring systems, and environmental incident prevention projects.

After inspection, the inter-agency council agreed to allow Formosa to conduct trial operations of blast furnace No. 1 and the steelmaking plant.

On May 29th, Formosa conducted trial runs of blast furnace No. 1, followed by trial runs of the steelmaking plant on June 1st, and by June 12th, had produced its first batch of over 1,000 tons of commercial steel.
