Forty-nine years ago, during the fierce resistance war against the US, the Đồng Lộc Crossroads became an immortal landmark in history. Because of its strategic importance as a vital crossroads on the route for transporting food, ammunition, and weapons from the North to the South, Đồng Lộc became a key target of intense bombing, where the US imperialists continuously dropped bombs in an attempt to cut off this vital transportation artery. According to statistics, each square meter of land there bore the impact of three bombs.

In just 240 days and nights from March to October 1968, the enemy air force dropped 48,600 bombs of various types on this area. Despite this, tens of thousands of soldiers, troops, transport workers, youth volunteers, and civilians tenaciously held their ground, enduring the bombing raids to fight the enemy, repair roads, and ensure the smooth flow of supplies to the front lines. Hundreds of outstanding sons and daughters of the nation fell, forever resting on this sacred land along the legendary Highway 15A, dedicating their youth to the happiness of the nation and the future of the country. Among them were 10 young women from the Youth Volunteer Team 4 of Company 552, 55th Youth Volunteer Brigade of Ha Tinh province.

They passed away at a very young age, none of them married. Their heroic sacrifice contributed to the shining example of revolutionary heroism, becoming a symbol of the immense dedication of millions of young people who selflessly sacrificed their youth for the cause of national liberation and reunification.
