The German leader has argued that generations born after World War II have simply been "lucky." However, 80 years after the end of World War II, present-day Germany is truly experiencing the pressures of this historical turning point.
According to Chancellor Merz, current global change is explosive and happening extremely rapidly. This crisis creates immense pressure, forcing the German government to make decisions. Almost "every week," Germany faces new challenges that go far beyond the scope of foreign policy. The successive crises directly impact domestic social life. Referring to the reform process, Chancellor Merz declared that he would continue to accelerate progress. At the same time, he called on the German people to be patient with the transition path being led by the government.
Despite reform efforts, political pressure remains heavy on the government. Previously, a study indicated that 74% of German citizens have a negative view of Chancellor Merz.
Compared to March, the German Chancellor's approval rating has dropped by 4 percentage points. Conversely, the number of people who oppose her has increased by 5 percentage points.
