Upon learning of the passing of Pope Francis on April 21, 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a message of condolences to the Chancellor of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son sent a message of condolences to the Secretary of State of the Vatican, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
