Hungarian Prime Minister: Europe has decided whether the conflict in Ukraine will continue.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Europe has decided that Ukraine should continue the conflict with Russia.
According to RIA Novosti on June 3, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that it had been decided in Brussels that Ukraine should continue the conflict.
"The situation is very clear: unfortunately, despite the efforts of US President Donald Trump, we are not leaving the war, but entering it. Brussels officials do not support the American peace plans. They have decided that Ukraine should continue the war," Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in a video message posted on his Facebook page.
However, Hungary supports US efforts to establish peace. According to Prime Minister Orban, Budapest needs to prepare for the reality that “European leaders – those interested in continuing the war – will do everything to draw Hungary into a pro-war European union.”
Prime Minister Orban also called for preparation for the possibility that special EU actions against Hungary and foreign-funded smear campaigns would gain momentum.
Earlier, Orban said that the European Union should recognize the need to join the US approach to resolving the conflict in Ukraine, and there was no reason to pursue different paths.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto called on European politicians not to obstruct a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
On June 2nd, following the second round of peace talks, which lasted an hour at the Chiragan Palace in Istanbul, Turkey, Foreign Minister Szijjarto had a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.
"I have reaffirmed our position that Hungary represents peace, that we are interested in a ceasefire and peace negotiations. Therefore, I thank Sergei Lavrov for initiating the continuation of the Russia-Ukraine peace talks in Istanbul. I also thank him for the fact that these peace talks have taken place, despite the fact that after the military actions last weekend, many people from outside and inside tried to persuade the Russian government and the Russian leadership not to hold these second round of talks in Istanbul," the Hungarian Foreign Minister said.
