On September 24, Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán Viktor and his wife began an official visit to Vietnam from September 24 to 26, 2017, at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The delegation of Prime Minister Orbán Viktor on an official visit to Vietnam also includes: Prime Minister's wife Lévai Anikó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Szijjártó Péter, Minister of National Economy Varga Mihály, Minister of Agriculture Fazekas Sándor, Minister of National Development Seszták Miklós, State Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources Palkovics László, State Secretary in charge of the Prime Minister's Program Coordination Office Nagy János, Political Advisor to the Prime Minister Rahói Zsuzsanna, Special Envoy to the Prime Minister Megyesy Jenő, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Policy Czukor József, Deputy State Secretary in charge of the Southern Policy Bus Szilveszter and Hungarian Ambassador to Vietnam Őry Csaba.

Vietnam and Hungary established diplomatic relations on February 3, 1950. Hungary has given Vietnam valuable support and assistance in the cause of national defense and construction.

Regarding economic relations, two-way trade turnover in the first 6 months of 2017 reached 145 million USD, an increase of more than 60% over the same period last year. Vietnam's main export items: textiles, footwear, computers, electronic products and components, means of transport and spare parts... Hungary's main export items: pharmaceuticals, machinery, spare parts, chemicals, animal feed...

CalculateBy 2016, Hungary had 15 valid FDI projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of 50.66 million USD, ranking 55th out of 105 countries and territories with direct investment in Vietnam.

Regarding development cooperation, since 2003, Hungary has put Vietnam on the priority list of development aid recipients. In January 2017, the two sides signed a Framework Agreement on Credit Cooperation worth 440 million Euros between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Hungary to implement development assistance projects in Vietnam.

Education and training is a traditional area of ​​cooperation between Vietnam and Hungary. During President Janos Ader’s visit to Vietnam (November 2014), Hungary announced to increase the number of scholarships granted to Vietnamese students to 100 per year. From the 2017-2018 school year, it will increase to 150 scholarships for Vietnamese students to study in Hungary.

The Vietnamese community in Hungary currently has about 4,000 people, living mainly in Budapest, doing garment business in Asian markets and shopping centers, living a relatively stable life, the image of Vietnamese people in the country is quite good. The people are always united and turn towards the Fatherland.
