To call upon organizations, businesses, and compassionate individuals nationwide to join hands in supporting the poor to celebrate the Lunar New Year, the "Power of Humanity 2020" program, themed "Tet for the Poor and Victims of Agent Orange" for the Year of the Rat 2020, organized by the Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee, took place in Ho Chi Minh City on the evening of January 18th.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the program and personally sent a message of support to the poor.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu, President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, stated that, in its role, the Vietnam Red Cross Society has implemented many effective and practical humanitarian and social assistance programs over the years.

In 2019, the total value of humanitarian activities of the Red Cross nationwide reached approximately 4,300 billion VND, assisting over 21.1 million people across the country.

Notably, the "Tet for the Poor and Victims of Agent Orange" fundraising campaign, initiated by the Association in 1999, has spread strongly throughout the community, attracting over 7,700 billion VND and assisting over 25 million poor households, victims of Agent Orange, policy beneficiary families, and people affected by natural disasters and calamities with diverse and practical forms of assistance such as: cash donations, cattle donations, house donations, free medical examinations and treatment, and free medicine...

Speaking at the program, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assessed that this program has profound humanitarian significance, strongly promoting the age-old spirit of "mutual support and compassion" of the Vietnamese people.

The Prime Minister commended the efforts of the Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee in mobilizing all social resources to care for the poor and those in difficult circumstances, helping to alleviate their hardships and encouraging them to strive for a better life.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that after more than 30 years of reform, the country has achieved many great and comprehensive achievements of historical significance in all fields, with relatively high economic growth, social security increasingly better ensured, and the living standards of people in all regions significantly improved.

Despite the impact of the market economy, the noble moral and humanitarian values ​​of our ancestors have been preserved and continue to be strongly promoted, especially the spirit of "mutual support and compassion," with the whole country joining hands for the poor, ensuring that no one is left behind, and actively contributing to building a solid social security system for the country.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc called on agencies, businesses, philanthropists, and Vietnamese people at home and abroad to continue supporting people still facing difficulties, such as those in remote areas, islands, border regions, people affected by natural disasters, and victims of Agent Orange.

To mobilize people nationwide to join forces in supporting poor families, victims of Agent Orange, and people affected by natural disasters so that they can have better conditions to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2020, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, in coordination with the National Humanitarian Information Portal 1400, launched a text message donation program to support the "Tet for the Poor and Victims of Agent Orange" movement for the Lunar New Year 2020.

People who text the message "TET" to the hotline 1409 will donate 20,000 VND to help the poor and victims of Agent Orange have better conditions to celebrate Tet. The program runs until February 7th.
