According to records at markets in Vinh city, fresh food items such as meat and fish have increased in price compared to before by 2-3 thousand. Specifically, pork costs from 120 - 130 thousand VND/kg (depending on the type), tilapia 60 thousand VND/kg, carp 70 thousand VND/kg, 130 thousand VND/kg...

According to Ms. Ha, a trader at Hung Dung market, the prices of all kinds of fish have increased due to the rain, so the supply has decreased. We have to import at a higher price than usual."

Vegetables and tubers are the items with the most obvious price increase, due to the impact of recent floods, the vegetable areas of Vinh city have all been severely damaged. The supply of this item has decreased significantly, so the prices of all vegetables have increased significantly, from 2-3 thousand VND/ bunch, some vegetables even nearly doubled; such as mustard greens 5-6 thousand VND/ bunch.

Although the prices of most food items have increased, purchasing power remains stable or has only decreased slightly. Especially for vegetables, customers are still crowded. Ms. Huyen (Quan Bau Ward) said: "I usually go to the market every 2 days. I just went yesterday at the weekend, but hearing that the weather forecast is for more rain, I took the opportunity to buy some more vegetables to store; in case of storms."

But fruit and offerings are lacking customers. Ms. Nga, a vendor at Quan Lau market, said: "From morning until now, I have only sold to 3 customers. It's a rainy day so there are fewer customers than usual; purchasing power has decreased by about half due to the prolonged rain."

In contrast to the situation in the markets, at some food stalls and supermarkets, purchasing power increased compared to normal days. Because the prices of food here are stable, in addition, many housewives are reluctant to go to the market on rainy days, so they choose supermarkets and stalls as places to shop for food for their families.
