Food and vegetables see price increases on rainy days.

(Baonghean.vn) - In the early days of the cold spell, accompanied by moderate to heavy rain, the prices of most food items and vegetables fluctuated upwards.

According to observations at markets in Vinh City, fresh food items such as meat and fish have increased in price by 2-3 thousand dong compared to before. Specifically, pork costs from 120-130 thousand dong/kg (depending on the type), tilapia 60 thousand dong/kg, carp 70 thousand dong/kg, and so on.

According to Ms. Ha, a small trader at Hung Dung market, "The prices of all kinds of fish have increased due to the rain, which has reduced the supply. We have to import them at higher prices than usual."

Vegetables and root crops have seen the most significant price increases, due to the recent heavy rains and floods that severely damaged vegetable-growing areas in Vinh City. The supply of these items has decreased considerably, leading to substantial price hikes of 2-3 thousand dong per bunch, and in some cases, nearly doubling; for example, cabbage now costs 5-6 thousand dong per bunch.

Although the prices of most food items have increased, purchasing power remains stable or has only decreased slightly. Especially for vegetables, there are still many customers. Ms. Huyen (Quan Bau Ward) said: "I usually go to the market every two days. Yesterday was the weekend, but I went yesterday, and hearing the weather forecast predicting more rain, I took the opportunity to buy some extra vegetables to stock up in case of storms."

However, fruit and ceremonial items are experiencing a lack of customers. Ms. Nga, a small vendor at Quan Lau market, said: "Since this morning, I've only sold to 3 customers. Due to the rain, there are significantly fewer customers than usual; purchasing power has decreased by about half because of the prolonged rain."

In contrast to the situation at traditional markets, some food stalls and supermarkets saw increased purchasing power compared to normal days. This is because the prices of various food items remained stable, and many housewives were reluctant to go to the market on rainy days, so they chose supermarkets and stalls as their preferred places to shop for groceries for their families.

At supermarkets, the food section sees increased demand for fresh produce and vegetables.
