(Baonghean.vn) - From Vinh City, Le Gia The rented a car to go to the Cau Treo border gate to find a source to buy drugs to sell for profit.

On the morning of August 5th, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to hear the case of illegal drug trafficking against Le Gia The (born in 1961), from Nghi Xuan, Ha Tinh province, residing in Quang Trung ward, Vinh City.

According to the indictment, on the morning of January 28, 2016, Le Gia The rented a 7-seater car to travel from Vinh City to Ha Tinh and then up to the Cau Treo border gate (Ha Tinh).

The suspect bought 1kg of methamphetamine from an unidentified Lao national, carefully wrapped it, and hid it under the front passenger seat. He drove around aimlessly to mislead the police, and at 10 PM that same day, he drove the car back to Vinh City.

The suspect is Le Gia The.

Upon reaching the Ben Thuy bridge area, Le Gia The was discovered and caught red-handed by the provincial police's anti-drug crime force. The police seized from The's vehicle a carefully wrapped plastic bag containing a block of white crystals (methamphetamine) and 20 million VND.

During an emergency search of The's residence, the police seized an additional 400 ecstasy pills, 4 packets of methamphetamine (approximately 70g), and 200 million VND.

At the trial, Le Gia The confessed honestly and showed remorse. After considering all aspects of the case and the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the court sentenced the defendant to 17 years in prison.
