(Baonghean.vn) - Deep in debt, Ngo Si Nam rented cars, forged documents, and then used them as collateral. The amount of money the defendant embezzled from the victims exceeded 1.7 billion VND.
The People's Court of Nghe An province recently held a first-instance criminal trial to hear the case against Ngo Si Nam (born in 1989), residing in Dien Xuan commune, Dien Chau district, for the crimes of Fraudulent appropriation of property and Forgery of seals and documents of agencies and organizations.

According to the indictment, due to his inability to repay debts, Nam conceived the idea of committing fraud by renting cars, forging documents, and then pawning them.
From August 2020 to January 2021, Nam rented six cars (worth over 3 billion VND) from car rental shops in Nghe An province, then hired someone to forge car documents and sales contracts before using them as collateral for loans.
The investigating agency determined that Ngo Si Nam hadappropriationOver 1.7 billion VND was raised through this method.
It is known that previously, in 2015, Nam was sentenced to prison for theft. In August 2021, Ngo Si Nam was sentenced by the first-instance court to 20 years in prison for illegally trafficking narcotics. During his imprisonment, Nam's fraudulent activities were discovered.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crimes. The panel of judges determined that the defendant's criminal acts were exceptionally serious, infringing upon the property rights of others protected by law, disrupting the normal functioning and reputation of state agencies, causing disorder in the locality, and creating public anxiety.
After a comprehensive review of the case, the court sentenced Ngo Si Nam to 16 years in prison for fraud and appropriation of property, and 4 years in prison for forging seals and documents of agencies and organizations; the combined sentence is 20 years in prison. The defendant is also ordered to return the money he appropriated from the victims.
Combined with a previous 20-year prison sentence for illegal drug trafficking, the defendant Nam is required to serve a total sentence of 30 years in prison.
