Alaska Summit: An Opportunity for Peace
The Alaska Summit between the US and Russian leaders concluded with many surprises, opening up opportunities for peace in the conflict in Ukraine.

According to RIA Novosti on August 16, talks in Anchorage (Alaska) between Russian and American leaders concluded after nearly three hours. The parties reached a mutual understanding on several points regarding the resolution of the Ukraine conflict.
Many surprises
For a brief moment at the airport, President Vladimir Putin paused briefly in the middle of his conversation with President Donald Trump on the red carpet – because above, a B-2 "ghost" bomber and a pair of roaring F-35s flew past Elmendorf-Richardson Air Force Base. An unexpected "parade".
Surprises kept coming. Even the way the special guest was received was kept secret until the last minute. Earlier, there were rumors that US Secretary of State Mark Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegset might greet President Putin at the entrance. But in reality, President Trump waited alone. The two leaders smiled, shook hands, and then proceeded to their two luxurious vehicles – an Aurus and a Cadillac.
The third surprise came when President Donald Trump, at the last minute, invited President Putin to ride in the same car. And Putin nodded. “The negotiations have begun!” an excited reporter shouted as the two stepped into the “Beast,” the armored limousine of the American president.

But then another twist occurred. Initially, the schedule stated that only the two leaders and their interpreters would participate in the negotiations. However, later it was reported that senior aides would also be present. And when President Putin arrived at 11:00 local time in Alaska on August 15th (2:30 AM on August 16th in Hanoi time), the scenario changed once again.
As a result, in the small conference room, besides the two leaders Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, there were also their assistants: Yuri Ushakov, Sergei Lavrov, Steve Witkoff, and Marco Rubio.
A meeting place for many icons.
The press conference following the "3+3" format once again surprised everyone. There was no barrage of questions as the media had expected; instead, the two presidents simply shook hands, exchanged a few brief words, and then left the podium. However, it was precisely those brief remarks that carried profound meaning.
President Putin began by thanking President Trump for the invitation to Alaska – a land with a special historical significance in the Russia-US relationship. Putin emphasized that this region has been a crossroads of the destinies of the two nations throughout history. During World War II, Alaska played a crucial role in military cooperation, and on this peninsula, Soviet pilots still rest in eternal peace.
The Russian President expressed his deep gratitude to the American authorities and the local people for preserving the memory and honoring these heroes appropriately. This message was both a tribute and a symbolic tribute to this historic meeting.
Putin also thanked Trump for his efforts to resolve the conflict. Between the parties, Putin noted, an understanding had been reached, which, as the Russian leader hoped, would pave the way for peace in Ukraine.
"We hope that Kyiv and the European capitals will recognize all of this constructively and will not create any obstacles. They will not try to disrupt the upcoming process at the cost of provocation or behind-the-scenes scheming," the Russian president said.
President Putin also called these events a great tragedy for Russia, because "the Ukrainian people are our brothers." Therefore, Moscow is very interested in the early start of peace.
President Putin affirmed that Russia agrees that Ukraine's security must be guaranteed. He added: Moscow is ready to do just that.

"No agreement has been reached yet.
For his part, President Trump noted that Moscow and Washington had reached an agreement on several points.
"The most important thing is that we have a good chance of achieving peace," Trump emphasized.
At the same time, the US President stated that, "on the most important point" of the agreements on Ukraine, there was no agreement with Russia, without explaining exactly what it was about.
President Trump stated, "We couldn't find a full understanding. Unfortunately, there's still no agreement." The parties will continue to communicate. Trump also promised to discuss the outcome of the meeting with European allies and Ukraine.
