US Senator proposes abolishing the Electoral College.
Senator Barbara Boxer has introduced a bill to abolish the Electoral College, which allowed Donald Trump to win the US presidency despite losing to Hillary Clinton by nearly 1 million popular votes in the November 8 election.

The U.S. Constitution stipulates that the Electoral College, composed of electors, has the right to elect the president, rather than through a popular vote. Over the past decades, hundreds of proposals to amend the U.S. Constitution regarding the Electoral College have been made, but none have been successful.
In the recent election, Clinton won more than 800,000 popular votes than Trump, but only 232 electoral votes compared to the real estate mogul's 290. To date, more than 4.3 million Americans have signed a petition on change.org urging the 538 electors to nominate Clinton as President of the United States at the meeting on December 19th. Despite this, Clinton has virtually no chance of reversing the situation.
In the 2000 election, Democratic candidate Al Gore also failed in the race for the White House despite winning 48.4% of the popular vote, while candidate George W. Bush only won 47.9% but had more electoral votes.
