Taking place from February 17-19 (corresponding to the 20th-22nd day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Snake), the 2025 Van Temple - Cua Rao Festival features numerous food stalls offering specialties from the highlands of Nghe An, including tadpole soup, fish salad, moss-covered meatballs, and bamboo-cooked rice.

The Van - Cua Rao Temple, located in Cua Rao 2 village, Xa Luong commune (Tuong Duong district), sits at the confluence of the Nam Non and Nam Mo rivers. This temple commemorates the heroic deeds of General Doan Nhu Hai, a renowned general of the Tran Dynasty who bravely sacrificed himself fighting against the Lao invaders to secure the border and protect the nation. The Van - Cua Rao Temple also houses the altars of the Three Holy Mothers (one of the Four Immortals according to folk beliefs), a unique aspect of Vietnamese culture. (Photo: Dinh Tuan)

At the Van Temple - Cua Rao Festival, visitors can not only admire the beautiful scenery of the thousand-year-old temple but also enjoy the flavors of local cuisine, prepared by the indigenous people themselves, reflecting the unique cultural identity of the highlands. According to statistics, this year there are nearly 60 food stalls serving visitors. Ms. Vi Thi Giang, the owner of one stall, said that the favorable weather this year has resulted in a large number of visitors. Almost all the food stalls are packed, and the dishes most favored by visitors are those with the distinctive flavors of the highlands. (In the photo: Ms. Giang preparing food to serve customers.
