A police lieutenant died while pursuing a suspect involved in the illegal trafficking of narcotics.
During the operation to dismantle a particularly serious drug trafficking ring in Quang Ninh province, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai, an officer of the Criminal Investigation Department for Drug Crimes of the Quang Ninh Provincial Police, bravely sacrificed his life while on duty.
Previously, through investigative work, the Quang Ninh Provincial Police discovered a large-scale illegal drug trafficking and transportation ring led by Nguyen Huu Dang (born in 1967), residing in Hung Thang Ward, Ha Long City. A special operation was launched to combat and dismantle the ring.

At approximately 8:20 PM on April 17th, authorities determined the time was right to crack the case. Near the Dragon Castel apartment complex (Ha Long City), Nguyen Huu Dang was caught red-handed while preparing to trade 16 blocks of heroin. Immediately afterwards, investigative teams continued to surround and apprehend other individuals involved in the drug ring, including Bui Dinh Khanh (born in 1994), residing at Group 6, Zone 1, Gieng Day Ward, Ha Long City, and a group of individuals from Phu Tho province who had traveled to Quang Ninh to conduct drug transactions.
During a pursuit near the Dai Yen toll station, the task force discovered and apprehended Ha Thuong Hai (born in 1994), residing at Thu Cuc Center 2, Tan Son, Phu Tho. However, the remaining suspects in the vehicle fiercely resisted with AK rifles in an attempt to rescue their accomplice. In this sudden and brutal attack, Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai was hit by a bullet.

Despite being rushed to Bai Chay Hospital – the nearest medical facility – by his colleagues, Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai succumbed to his injuries due to their severity, bravely sacrificing his life while on duty. His passing is a great loss to the police force and a source of deep sorrow for his family, loved ones, and colleagues.
On the night of April 17th, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long - Deputy Minister of Public Security, along with leaders of the Drug Crime Investigation Department and the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security, were present and joined the leaders of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee in an emergency meeting with the Provincial Police Directorate and the Provincial Military Command to direct the plan to apprehend the remaining fugitives. They also directed the rapid implementation of policies and benefits for officers and soldiers who died or were injured while on duty.

Through initial investigations, the two suspects, Nguyen Huu Dang and Ha Thuong Hai, confessed to the illegal trafficking of narcotics. The seized evidence included 16 blocks of heroin, 2 military firearms, 1 grenade, 3 cars, and other related items. The Quang Ninh Provincial Police are urgently pursuing the remaining suspects: Bui Dinh Khanh and two others, Hoang Van Dong and Ha Quang Son (born in 1994), both residing in Trung Tam 1, Thu Cuc, Tan Son, Phu Tho; simultaneously, they are coordinating with relevant agencies to blockade waterways, roads, borders, and checkpoints, controlling vehicles entering and leaving the province.
With a swift and decisive effort to apprehend the criminals, at 4:30 AM on April 18th, law enforcement officers arrested two more suspects, Ha Quang Son and Hoang Van Dong, while they were attempting to flee.
Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai fell while carrying out his noble duty – protecting the peaceful lives of the people and relentlessly fighting against drug crimes. His sacrifice is a clear testament to the courage, loyalty, and dedication of a People's Police officer.
His image – a resilient and unwavering soldier who risked his life for the cause of protecting national security – will forever be a sacred flame, igniting the will and faith of succeeding generations of police officers.
