Nghe An's fisheries sector aims to achieve 4.8 trillion VND in revenue.

(Baonghean.vn) - During the period 2016 - 2020, Nghe An province strives to achieve a seafood production value of nearly 4.8 trillion VND.

On the afternoon of December 15th, the Provincial People's Committee held a consultation meeting on the provincial fisheries development plan until 2020, with a vision to 2030.

Comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - chaired the meeting. Attending the meeting were leaders from the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, Planning and Investment, Finance, Industry and Trade, and Natural Resources and Environment.

According to a report by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province currently has 23,463 hectares of aquaculture surface area, an increase of 21.7% compared to 2006. Of this, freshwater aquaculture accounts for 21,713 hectares; brackish water aquaculture accounts for 1,750 hectares.

Aquaculture production in 2015 was estimated at 45,500 tons, an increase of 1.8 times compared to 2006. Of this, saltwater and brackish water aquaculture production was estimated at 9,500 tons; freshwater aquaculture production was estimated at 36,000 tons. The value of processed seafood exports in 2015 was estimated at US$25,000.

For the period 2016-2020, Nghe An province aims to achieve a fisheries production value of nearly 4.8 trillion VND. The aquaculture area is targeted at 29,400 hectares, including 27,600 hectares for freshwater aquaculture and 1,800 hectares for saltwater and brackish water aquaculture.

The target for aquatic product output in 2020 is 185,000 tons. Freshwater aquaculture areas are mainly concentrated in the districts of Yen Thanh, Thanh Chuong, Do Luong, Nam Dan, Hung Nguyen, Nghi Loc, and Vinh City; brackish water aquaculture areas are concentrated in the districts of Hoang Mai town, Quynh Luu, Dien Chau, and Nghi Loc.

The meeting agreed on the planning objectives and proposed solutions. Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dinh Viet Hong instructed the Department of Agriculture to finalize the plan soon and submit it to the Provincial People's Committee for approval and implementation.
