Bayern Munich's new striker makes his debut in an unusual shirt number.

Bayern Munich have signed striker Sandro Wagner from Hoffenheim until 2020. He is considered a backup option for their number one striker Robert Lewandowski.

On their homepage, Bayern Munich's management officially announced the signing of 30-year-old striker Sandro Wagner on a contract until 2020. According to German media, the Bavarian club will pay Hoffenheim €13 million to bring Wagner back to the Allianz Arena.

Furthermore, Wagner will wear the number 2 shirt at Bayern. When asked to explain this unusual number for a striker, Wagner simply replied: "This is my second stint at Bayern, so it's a nice number."

Wagner was a product of Bayern's youth academy before moving to clubs such as MSV Duisburg, Werder Bremen, FC Kaiserslautern, Hertha Berlin, Darmstadt 98 and later Hoffenheim.

Thanks to his progress at Hoffenheim, Wagner was called up to the German national team in 2017, making 7 appearances and scoring 5 goals. He was also a member of the German team that won the 2017 Confederations Cup.
