Installation of steel mesh to prevent people from jumping off Ben Thuy 1 bridge is underway.
The installation of decorative lighting and safety nets on Ben Thuy 1 Bridge is being urgently implemented. The project will both give the bridge a new look and enhance measures to prevent the numerous bridge-jumping incidents that have occurred in the area.
Observations at Ben Thuy 1 Bridge on the morning of April 17th showed that the construction unit was mobilizing approximately 20 personnel and vehicles to simultaneously implement various items of the project, including the installation of protective netting and decorative lighting systems along both sides of the bridge. Work was carried out continuously, even through lunchtime, to accelerate progress and ensure the project was completed on schedule.
Construction work is being carried out simultaneously on both sides of the railing. Authorities have placed signs, barriers, and are regulating traffic to ensure the safety of passing vehicles.
According to the design, the safety net system is 2.5 meters high and securely attached to the bridge railing. In addition, LED lights will be installed along both sides of the bridge railing, using low voltage to ensure safety during operation. When completed, the lighting system will create a highlight at night, contributing to enhancing the aesthetics of the gateway area between Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces.
In addition, protective steel mesh has been installed on the bridge spans to reduce the risk of objects falling to the ground below, while also enhancing safety for road users. The total length of the railings installed on each side is approximately 433 meters.
Many people who regularly travel across Ben Thuy 1 Bridge have expressed their agreement, saying that installing protective netting is necessary, ensuring safety while also creating a new highlight for the structure.
Ben Thuy 1 Bridge is a crucial transportation structure on National Highway 1, connecting Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces. Over the years, this area has seen numerous suicide attempts by jumping off the bridge. Therefore, investing in the installation of safety nets is a humane gesture, contributing to risk prevention and protecting human lives.
The project to install protective netting on Ben Thuy 1 Bridge has a total cost of approximately 2.9 billion VND, with the People's Committee of Nghi Xuan Commune (Ha Tinh Province) as the investor, and is expected to be completed before April 30th. Once put into use, the project will contribute to a new look for Ben Thuy 1 Bridge, while also improving safety for people and vehicles crossing the bridge.
