2025 marks a breakthrough for Nghe An's industry with an impressive 17% growth in the Industrial Production Index (IIP), led by key sectors such as electronics and construction materials. On the path to recovery and development, the Industry and Trade sector has proactively activated key solutions for digital transformation and greening production, determined to bring the IIP to 17.5% in 2026.

Last year, one of the sectors experiencing strong growth was the quarrying industry. The volume of quarried stone reached 7,668 thousand cubic meters, an 85% increase compared to 2024, driven by increased demand for civil construction and supply to key ongoing transportation projects, as well as for disaster relief and repair in the province.

The cement market has recently shown signs of recovery, with rising prices. Improved consumption has helped many businesses achieve good results. Mr. Pham Xuan Khanh, Production Director of Song Lam Cement Joint Stock Company, said: “Thanks to the strong and sustained recovery of the market, combined with continuous efforts in optimizing production, we are confident that our 2025 production volume will reach 4,379,727 tons – an impressive figure exceeding the planned target of 4,260,400 tons. This means the factory has accelerated its production by more than 119,000 tons, not only successfully achieving the target but also affirming its leading position, becoming a prominent highlight in the promising recovery picture of the entire cement industry.”

Along with a noticeable "warming up" in domestic demand, although exports have slowed down somewhat, they still play a crucial "regulating valve," contributing to overall consumption. However, pressure from continuously escalating input costs - coal, electricity, gasoline, and oil - has forced cement companies to flexibly adjust selling prices to maintain operational balance.

At the end of 2025, Song Hieu Forestry and Agriculture Company achieved positive results: revenue exceeding 150 billion VND, profit of 13.5 billion VND, and tax contributions exceeding 10.5 billion VND; employee livelihoods were ensured with an average income of 9.5 million VND per month. Notably, the company made a breakthrough in production by replacing thermal drying ovens with modern steam drying technology. Simultaneously, upgrading the wood gluing production line from manual to semi-automatic increased production capacity by more than three times, reaching 2,900 m3/year. Mr. Ho Duc Dan, Deputy General Director of Song Hieu Forestry and Agriculture Company, stated that although the company faced many challenges in the first seven months of the year, business performance improved significantly in the final months. In particular, the wood chip segment maintained strong sales momentum, while wood panel products solidified their position in the international market with 70% of production exported to the US.

Entering 2026, the company aims for a breakthrough with double-digit growth and plans to expand its distribution network. However, the company's leadership frankly shared that the biggest "bottleneck" currently is investment capital. According to Mr. Dan, the need to expand production lines to meet large orders is urgent, but access to loans remains a significant obstacle. This is a difficult problem that needs to be solved so that the business can improve its production capacity and maximize market opportunities in the coming year.

The recent period has witnessed positive shifts in several industrial sectors through restructuring and prioritizing in-depth investment. The development of supporting industries continues to grow, especially in the production of electronic components, accessories, and automotive parts. During the year, several projects producing components, accessories, raw materials, and supplies commenced operations, contributing to increased added value and product competitiveness within the value chain; shifting the economic structure and gradually forming a center for the production of electronic and high-tech equipment in the North Central region.

The textile and footwear industries aim to invest in high value-added stages of the value chain, applying smart manufacturing technologies to production processes to become key export products. New projects that came into operation this year include: the Viet Fast - Yen Thanh footwear manufacturing and processing plant with a capacity of 8 million products/year; and the Andromeda footwear manufacturing plant project, phase 1 (Hoang Mai I Industrial Park)... These projects help shift manufacturing and processing activities to rural and mountainous areas of Nghe An province, linking them with local labor, contributing to economic restructuring, and creating more jobs and income for workers.

The building materials manufacturing industry utilizes new technologies, and new types of materials are developing rapidly, such as: large-format tiles, colored roof tiles; non-fired bricks using recycled materials from fly ash, slag, and crushed stone; wall cladding panels; and high-end sanitary and bathroom equipment (TDV Vietnam Production and Trading Group Co., Ltd.). In addition, several new projects commenced trial operations this year, such as Innovation Precision (Vietnam) Co., Ltd., producing 100,000 tons of aluminum alloy per year, and the Tan Viet Metal Science and Technology Plant project of Tan Viet Metal Science and Technology Co., Ltd. These projects essentially meet domestic market demand and have sufficient export potential.

The agricultural, forestry, and fisheries processing and food industries are developing in a direction linked to regional raw material planning and high-tech agricultural models, attracting many small and medium-sized enterprises to invest, especially in the production of medicinal herbs, MDF boards, laminated boards, and bamboo products, etc. The forestry processing zone associated with the high-tech forestry application zone in the North Central region of Nghe An is continuing to implement investment procedures.

In 2025, while the economic restructuring is moving in the right direction, some industrial sectors are still not truly sustainable, and industrial production has not yet participated much in global production networks and value chains. High-tech and supporting industries are developing slowly. In the first 10 months of the year, due to difficulties in production for some businesses, exports decreased, orders were hard to secure, consumer markets were challenging, input material prices increased, and some factories could not recruit the required workforce. Some products experienced declines and projected lower growth than planned for the year, such as canned beer, various types of bottle caps, fish sauce, wood chips, and NPK fertilizers.

Local products are diverse, but the scale of commodity production remains small and fragmented; in particular, some agricultural products do not meet the requirements of foreign markets. Strong export items such as electronic components and various types of textiles, despite having significant capacity, still face difficulties in meeting and applying rules of origin due to the primary reliance on imported raw materials. The added value of exports remains low.

In 2026, the global situation will continue to be unpredictable, and the trend towards stricter standards for "greening" production will put significant pressure on businesses. Nghe An province aims to achieve an Industrial Production Index (IIP) of 17.5% in 2026.

To achieve the set goals, Mr. Pham Van Hoa, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, stated that the industry has proactively prepared with key solutions: perfecting institutions and spatial development planning, focusing on new growth drivers, digital transformation, and green production. Adhering to the spirit of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW and Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW, priority is given to developing the private sector economy, encouraging businesses to invest in high-tech processing and manufacturing industries, renewable energy, and circular production.

The sector will coordinate with VNPT and other units to complete the digital database of the Industry and Trade sector, helping to manage and support businesses more effectively. At the same time, it will continue to improve the effectiveness of the Task Force for Industrial Growth, persistently monitoring and resolving difficulties for key projects. In particular, it will focus on urging and accelerating the progress of infrastructure investment in industrial clusters, ensuring sufficient clean land and synchronized infrastructure to attract capable investors from the first year of the term...
