According to the case file, on May 14th, Ms. PTTV used social media (Facebook) to search for VIP tickets to the concert "The Park K-Star in Viet Nam," scheduled to be held in Hanoi on June 21st. Through the account "The Di," Ms. V. was quoted a price of 11 million VND for two VIP tickets plus a 300,000 VND purchasing fee.
To gain trust, this person sent a picture of a national identity card bearing the name Dang The Di (born in 1999, from Dong Thap province) and then requested Ms. V. to transfer a deposit. Trusting him, Ms. V. transferred money three times, totaling 16.3 million VND, to a BIDV bank account under Di's name.
Initially, Ms. V. received an email from the address "C.Ticket" confirming her ticket booking. Then, the Facebook account "The Di" requested additional money to "match the ticket price." When Ms. V. complied, the person promised to refund the excess but then blocked all communication. Ms. V. contacted the event organizers and discovered that the booking confirmation email was fake, and all her money had been lost to the person named Di.
The Ho Chi Minh City Police Investigation Agency launched an investigation and identified Dĩ as the perpetrator, bringing him to the station for questioning. There, Dĩ confessed to creating Facebook and Zalo accounts to sell tickets for music shows, which attracted a lot of attention.
To increase credibility, Di provided a real photo of the national ID card, then asked customers to transfer a deposit. Simultaneously, Di created fake email addresses impersonating the organizers, sending confirmation emails of successful ticket bookings to reinforce the buyers' trust.
Di always created situations of "shortage or surplus of money" to force victims to transfer funds multiple times. This method made many people complacent, believing they were about to receive their tickets and only needed to transfer a small amount to "complete the order." Once he had collected enough money, Di immediately cut off contact. After consolidating the evidence, on July 31, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Investigation Agency initiated a criminal case, indicted the suspect, and temporarily detained Dang The Di for the crime of "fraud and misappropriation of property"
