The body of Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam, who had been dead for many days, was found at a house in Hoang Mai district (Hanoi).

On the afternoon of January 3, Hanoi authorities identified the body of a man found in a house in lane 279 (Hoang Mai) as Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quoc Oai district; the victim had been dead for many days.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam's family was informed of the incident and came to receive the body of their relative.

On the same day, the authorities approached, sealed off the house and put up a cordon to block the entrance for investigation. Dozens of police officers were present in the area. A white-plated ambulance was dispatched to the blockade area.

At around 5:45 p.m., a body wrapped in a white towel was taken away from the scene in an ambulance. Authorities continued to cordon off the house.

The scene is a four-story house with an attic. Residents said the house was put into use last year and the owner is rarely seen.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam was elected Chairman of the People's Committee of Quoc Oai district in mid-2017.

Previously, from December 26, 2017, Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quoc Oai district, did not come to the office, did not submit a leave application. The district leaders tried to contact him but his phone was constantly turned off. A day later, his family reported to the district that Mr. Lam suddenly went missing.

On January 2, the Criminal Police Department (Hanoi Police) announced that they were investigating the cause and looking for Mr. Lam. According to this agency, at about 9:00 p.m. on December 25, 2017, Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam drove a black Camry and left the headquarters of the People's Committee of Quoc Oai District. At 9:36 p.m., he parked his car at 113 Tran Duy Hung, then walked to alley 115 Tran Duy Hung and left by an unidentified means of transport.

At 9:53 p.m. the same day, Mr. Lam arrived at Den Lu Lake area (Hoang Mai, Hanoi).

Authorities determined that Mr. Lam’s phone stopped ringing early in the morning of December 26 in Den Lu. Before losing contact, Mr. Lam called his son to say that he was “in trouble.”

Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam was born in 1964, residing in Nghia Huong commune (Quoc Oai, Hanoi). He used to be the Chairman of Nghia Huong Cooperative; Chairman of Nghia Huong commune; Chief of Office of Quoc Oai District Party Committee; Vice Chairman of Quoc Oai district.

In mid-2017, Mr. Lam was elected Chairman of Quoc Oai district after his predecessor was appointed Director of the Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment.

During more than 10 years as Vice Chairman of Quoc Oai district, Mr. Lam was assessed as "very cautious, calm, nothing special about relationships. His behavior and leadership and management work also had no problems".
