Looking for a job online, a woman lost more than 600 million VND
Because she needed to find a job online to earn money, a woman in Ha Long City (Quang Ninh) suddenly became a victim, being scammed out of more than 600 million VND.
On February 19, Quang Ninh Provincial Police said they had just received a criminal complaint from Ms. LPD (30 years old, residing in Hong Hai Ward, Ha Long City) about being scammed and having more than 600 million VND appropriated.
According to Ms. D, on February 14, because she needed to find a job, she used her Facebook account to post a job search on several fanpages.
At noon of the same day, Ms. D. received a call from the phone number 0776.506.666 claiming to be an employee of the human resources department of a bank and scheduled an online interview for Ms. D. at around 8:00 a.m. the next day.
On the morning of February 15, this person continued to call and instruct Ms. D. to join a group on the Microsoft Teams application to conduct an interview.
After joining the group, Ms. D. received messages from some accounts in the group instructing her to perform a transaction task using money as a basis for selection, while promising to receive commission. After that, Ms. D. was instructed by these people to access the website “duanvcb.vietcombankhr.com” to register for a working account.
Because of trust, Ms. D. transferred money to 2 bank accounts many times to perform the task with a total amount of more than 600 million VND.
On February 17, Ms. D. failed to withdraw money to her personal account, so she texted the Microsoft Teams group and was instructed to deposit more money to legalize the deposited amount before she could withdraw it. Suspecting that she had been scammed, Ms. D. went to the police to report the matter.
