(Baonghean.vn) - Approval of Russian President Vladimir Putin remains stable at over 80%, despite growing concerns among the Russian community about economic decline and corruption. This is the result of the latest survey by the American polling firm Gallup.

According to the aforementioned survey, the approval rating of the Russian people for their president remains unchanged from the very high figures they have given him since Russia annexed Crimea three years ago.

"More than eight out of ten Russians (81%) in 2016 – the year of Gallup's most recent survey in the country – affirmed their support for the job Putin is doing," Gallup stated on its official website.

The survey noted: “The unwavering confidence in Putin is remarkable because it appears unaffected by the recent economic troubles in his country. Russian public support for Putin remains high – even showing a slight upward trend – amid sharply falling oil prices, years of recession, and Western sanctions over Moscow’s actions in Ukraine.”

However, according to the same source, optimism about the prospects of the Russian national economy declined in 2016, falling to levels comparable to the record low of 2009, amidst a severe global economic crisis. Furthermore, the survey highlighted that "three out of four Russians feel that widespread corruption exists within the government."
