Polling firm Gallup said a survey of 1,003 South Koreans conducted from November 8 to 10 showed that 90% of respondents disapproved of Park Geun-hye. This percentage has risen to a new high from 89% last week.
Earlier on November 4th, Park Geun-hye publicly apologized to the South Korean people for the second time and announced her willingness to relinquish some of her powers.
President Park Geun-hye is facing accusations of allowing her close confidante, Choi Soon-sil, to use their relationship to interfere in state affairs and profit personally. This political scandal has shaken South Korea and the world.
Park Geun-hye still has one year left in her presidential term. According to Fortune magazine, the current focus of analysts is who will become the next president of South Korea after the presidential election in December 2017. One of the names most frequently mentioned at the moment is UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Ban Ki-moon previously served as South Korea's Foreign Minister from 2004 to 2006. According to Reuters, Ban Ki-moon is likely to represent Park's ruling Saenuri Party if he runs for president next year.
