Super Typhoon RAGASA has been classified by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) as a Violent Typhoon - the highest classification for tropical cyclones in the Northwest Pacific region (with 10-minute sustained winds) reaching 110 kts (~205 km/h), slightly stronger than YAGI in 2024 (105 kts).

At 10:00 a.m. on September 22, the center of super typhoon RAGASA was at about 19.4 degrees North latitude; 122.4 degrees East longitude, about 140km northeast of Luzon Island (Philippines). The strongest wind near the center of the super typhoon was level 17 (202-221km/h), gusting above level 17. Moving in the West Northwest direction at a speed of about 20km/h.

According to Mr. Mai Van Khiem - Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the storm is forecast to enter the East Sea tonight (September 22), becoming the 9th storm of the year, moving quickly at about 20 km/hour and maintaining a maximum intensity of level 16 - 17, gusting above level 17 on September 22 - 23.

"With such intensity, super typhoon Ragasa is equivalent to or exceeds the strongest intensity of typhoon No. 3 Yagi in 2024 and is among the strongest super typhoons ever to appear in the East Sea," Mr. Mai Van Khiem emphasized.

At 7:00 a.m. on September 24, the center of the storm was at about 20.8 degrees north latitude; 113.8 degrees east longitude, in the northern sea area of ​​the North East Sea, about 370km east of Leizhou Peninsula (China). The intensity is level 16-17, gusting above level 17.

From September 24-26, the Gulf of Tonkin and the coast of the North - North Central region are likely to have strong winds of level 9 to level 12, near the storm center of level 12 to level 14, gusts of level 15 to level 16, accompanied by widespread heavy rain.
