1. Opening of the APEC High-Level Week in Da Nang

On November 6th, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) High-Level Week officially opened in Da Nang City. This is the most important event in APEC Vietnam 2017, with the participation of leaders from 21 APEC economies and 10,000 regional and international delegates.

With the theme "Creating New Momentum, Building a Shared Future Together," the APEC High-Level Week took place from November 6-11, 2017, featuring eight main events and numerous side activities. The opening event of the APEC High-Level Week was the Senior Officials' Meeting (CSOM), which lasted for two days, November 6-7.

The APEC High-Level Week was attended by leaders from 21 APEC economies, with key speeches delivered by US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, among others.

Leaders from 21 economies will discuss and approve the major cooperation achievements made throughout the year, along with setting the direction for APEC Economic Forum cooperation in the coming years.

2. Rally commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Russian October Revolution.

On the morning of November 5th, in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the City of Hanoi jointly organized a solemn rally to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Russian October Revolution (November 7, 1917 - November 7, 2017).

On behalf of the Party and State leadership, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong delivered a commemorative speech highlighting the profound historical significance of the Russian October Revolution for human history. The victory of the Russian October Revolution fueled the world communist and workers' movement, strongly promoted the process of national liberation globally, and spurred the liberation movement for people's livelihoods and socialist democracy.

3.Continuing the 4th session of the 14th National Assembly

Last week, the 4th session of the 14th National Assembly continued, with National Assembly deputies listening to and discussing reports on the implementation of national goals on gender equality and the draft Law on Prevention and Combat of Corruption (amended).

On the morning of November 7th, the National Assembly held a plenary session to discuss reports on the work of the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court and the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy in 2017; crime prevention and control; enforcement of judgments; and anti-corruption efforts in 2017.

On November 9th, the National Assembly heard and discussed the Report on the implementation of the national goal on gender equality. On the afternoon of November 10th, the National Assembly discussed in the plenary session the draft Law on the management and use of state assets (amended).

4. Official visits to Vietnam by heads of state from 4 countries.

On November 11th, US President Donald Trump arrived in Hanoi, beginning his official visit to Vietnam from November 11-12 at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang. The official welcoming ceremony for President Trump took place on the morning of November 12th at the Presidential Palace.

This marks Donald Trump's first visit to Vietnam in his first year in office. He also chose Vietnam as his first destination among Southeast Asian countries. Prior to this, on November 10th, Donald Trump visited Da Nang to attend the APEC High-Level Week and delivered a key speech at the APEC CEO Summit 2017.

During this visit, Donald Trump held bilateral meetings with President Tran Dai Quang as well as other high-ranking Vietnamese leaders in Hanoi. This afternoon (November 12), Mr. Trump will leave Vietnam and continue his tour to the Philippines.

At the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Tran Dai Quang, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping began a two-day state visit to Vietnam on November 12 and 13.

The visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping to Vietnam is of great significance to bilateral relations because it is the first foreign visit of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping after the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

According to the program, it is expected that today (November 12), General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will preside over the official welcoming ceremony and hold talks with General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived in Hanoi on the morning of November 8, 2017, beginning a two-day official visit to Vietnam before traveling to Da Nang to attend the APEC 2017 Summit.

The visit took place against the backdrop of what are considered positive developments in Vietnam-Canada relations. Therefore, the purpose of the visit was to strengthen relations between the two countries, focusing on the areas of politics and diplomacy, economics, trade, education, and development assistance.

On the afternoon of the same day (November 8th), President Michelle Bachelet Keria of the Republic of Chile arrived in Hanoi to begin her official visit to Vietnam before attending the APEC 2017 Leaders' Meeting in Da Nang.

The Chilean President's visit also aims to strengthen friendly relations and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, focusing on the fields of economics, trade, investment, culture, science, technology, tourism, and other areas of mutual interest.

5. Opening Ceremony of the 2017 Electronic Payment Forum

On November 6th, the Vietnam Electronic Payment Forum 2017 (VEPF) officially opened in Hanoi. This is the third consecutive year that VEPF has been held, with the participation of nearly 1,000 people.

VEPF 2017, with the overarching theme of "Mobile Payment - A Driving Force for a Cashless Economy," focuses on discussions aimed at developing a cashless payment ecosystem in Vietnam. VEPF 2017 will feature three main discussion sessions: The global boom in mobile payments and trends in Vietnam; developing a mobile payment ecosystem in Vietnam; and a dialogue on electronic payments in e-commerce with billionaire Jack Ma, Chairman of Alibaba Group.

6. The person who donated 5,000 taels of gold to the revolution has passed away.

Mrs. Hoang Thi Minh Ho, wife of businessman Trinh Van Bo, who donated 5,147 taels of gold to the State during the 'Gold Week' (1945), passed away at 11:20 PM on November 5th at her home on Hoang Dieu Street, Hanoi, at the age of 104.

During that time, Mr. and Mrs. Hoang Thi Minh Ho secretly accepted the revolutionary offer to host a group of cadres from the resistance zone at their home, No. 48 Hang Ngang Street, Hanoi, just a few days after the successful August Revolution.

The couple donated 5,147 taels of gold to the revolution since the general uprising and throughout the resistance war against the French until our nation achieved victory. They also supported the revolutionary government by donating their house at 48 Hang Ngang Street to be used as a memorial house, marking the place where President Ho Chi Minh drafted the Declaration of Independence.
