1. Opening of APEC Summit Week in Da Nang

On November 6, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit Week officially opened in Da Nang City. This is the most important event in the APEC Vietnam Year 2017 with the participation of leaders of 21 APEC economies and 10,000 regional and international delegates.

With the theme “Creating new dynamism, fostering a shared future”, the APEC Summit Week takes place from November 6 to 11, 2017 with 8 main events and many sideline activities. The opening event of the APEC Summit Week is the Concluding Senior Officials Meeting (CSOM) and lasts for 2 days, November 6-7.

The APEC Summit Week was attended by leaders of 21 APEC economies with important speeches, including US President Donald Trump, General Secretary - President of China Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin...

Leaders of 21 economies will discuss and approve major cooperation results achieved throughout the year, along with orientations for APEC Economic Forum cooperation in the following years.

2. Rally to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution in Russia

On the morning of November 5, in Hanoi, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Hanoi City solemnly organized a rally to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Russian October Revolution (November 7, 1917 - November 7, 2017).

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong delivered a commemorative speech highlighting the great historical significance of the Russian October Revolution to human history. The victory of the Russian October Revolution gave strength to the world communist and workers' movements, promoted the strong process of national liberation around the world, and promoted the liberation movement for people's livelihood and socialist democracy.

4. Official visit to Vietnam by heads of 4 countries

On November 11, US President Donald Trump arrived in Hanoi, starting his official visit to Vietnam from November 11-12 at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang. The official welcoming ceremony for US President Donald Trump took place on the morning of November 12 at the Presidential Palace.

This is the first time Mr. Donald Trump has visited Vietnam in the first year of his term. He also chose Vietnam as his first destination among Southeast Asian countries. Previously, on November 10, Mr. Donald Trump arrived in Da Nang, attended the APEC High-Level Week and delivered an important speech at the APEC CEO Summit 2017.

During this visit, Mr. Donald Trump will have a bilateral meeting with President Tran Dai Quang as well as other senior Vietnamese leaders in Hanoi. This afternoon (November 12), Mr. Trump will leave Vietnam to continue his trip to the Philippines.

At the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Tran Dai Quang, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping began a two-day State visit to Vietnam on November 12 and 13.

The visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping is of great significance to the relationship between the two countries because this is the first foreign visit by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping after the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

According to the program, it is expected that today (November 12), General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will chair the official welcoming ceremony and hold talks with General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived in Hanoi on the morning of November 8, 2017, beginning a two-day official visit to Vietnam before going to Da Nang to attend the 2017 APEC Summit.

5. Opening of the 2017 Electronic Payment Forum

On November 6, the Vietnam Electronic Payment Forum 2017 (VEPF) officially opened in Hanoi. This is the third consecutive year that VEPF has been held, with the participation of nearly 1,000 people.

VEPF 2017 with the overarching theme of “Mobile Payment - a factor promoting the cashless economy”, focuses on exchanging and discussing contents towards developing an ecosystem for cashless payments in Vietnam. VEPF 2017 will have 3 main discussion sessions: The explosion of mobile payment activities in the world and trends in Vietnam; developing an ecosystem for mobile payment activities in Vietnam; dialogue on electronic payment in e-commerce with billionaire Jack Ma - Chairman of Alibaba Group.

6. The man who donated 5,000 taels of gold to the revolution passed away.

Mrs. Hoang Thi Minh Ho, wife of businessman Trinh Van Bo, who donated 5,147 taels of gold to the State during the 'Golden Week' (1945), passed away at 11:20 p.m. on November 5 at her home on Hoang Dieu Street, Hanoi, at the age of 104.

At that time, the couple Hoang Thi Minh Ho secretly accepted the invitation of the revolution to welcome a group of cadres from the war zone to stay at their private home, No. 48 Hang Ngang Street, Hanoi, just a few days after the successful August Revolution.

The couple donated 5,147 taels of gold to the revolution after the general uprising and throughout the resistance war against the French until our nation won. They also supported the revolutionary government with the house at 48 Hang Ngang to make a memorial house, marking the place where President Ho Chi Minh drafted the Declaration of Independence.
