The complete list of 2017 Academy Awards results.
Contrary to many predictions, Moonlight was named Best Picture, the most important award at the 89th Academy Awards, instead of the strong contender La La Land.
After a long period of criticism for being "OscarSoWhite" (Oscars biased towards white nominees), the results of this year's awards ceremony will likely please many, as the contributions of artists of color have been more deservedly recognized, with the notable victory of Moonlight, a film about a gay black boy living in a poor Miami neighborhood who struggles with his sexual identity.

Another highlight of this year's Oscars was that both the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress awards were given to actors of color: Viola Davis (Fences) and Mahershala Ali (Moonlight).
Entering the awards ceremony as the most nominated film (14 categories), La La Land only won two major awards: Best Director (Damien Chazelle) and Best Actress (Emma Stone). Meanwhile, Ryan Gosling was beaten by Casey Affleck's performance in Manchester by the Sea in the Best Actor category.
In total, La La Land won 7 awards at the 2017 Academy Awards.
