A woman in Dong Nai province has been recommended for prosecution for using cyanide to poison four family members, including her husband and nephews, causing a public outcry.

The Investigation Police Department of Dong Nai province has just completed its investigation report and transferred the file to the Provincial People's Procuracy, recommending the prosecution of Nguyen Thi Hong Bich (39 years old, residing in Phuoc An commune) for the crimes of "Murder" and "Illegal production, storage, transportation, use, and sale of flammable and toxic substances".

Notably, the victims in this case were none other than the defendant's husband and other family members.

They fabricated a story about using "liver detoxification" medicine to poison their own nephew.

According to the investigation findings, Bich lived with her husband, Nguyen Thoai Thanh T. (40 years old), and their two children in Hamlet 4, Son Ha Village, Vinh Thanh Commune (now Phuoc An Commune), in her father's house, along with her older brother's family. Bich's family ran a home-based food business serving local residents and workers in the area.

In June 2024, Bich had a conflict with her sister-in-law over money. From then on, she conceived the idea of poisoning NHBT (19 years old, her sister-in-law's child) to "get revenge".

Taking advantage of T.'s acne, Bich approached her, claiming she had experienced something similar before and had recovered thanks to liver-cleansing medicine. When T. agreed, Bich went to a pharmacy to buy the medicine, requesting it in capsule form. She then discarded the contents of two capsules, replacing them with cyanide, and gave it to T. to swallow.

Immediately afterwards, Bich took her motorbike and left the house with her daughter, creating an alibi. Meanwhile, T., who had just finished drinking, collapsed in the living room. The victim was discovered by relatives and taken to the hospital in time, saving her life.

Test results from the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Public Health showed that T.'s stomach fluid contained 21 mg/L of cyanide, an extremely toxic substance.

The incident was reported to the police by relatives. During the investigation, Bich confessed to having previously used cyanide to poison three other relatives, including her husband.

In 2022, due to her husband's debts, Bich searched online to buy cyanide for 1 million VND to commit suicide. However, seeing her husband's heavy debts, she decided to kill him with cyanide instead.

Specifically, Bich confessed to swapping her husband's medication with cyanide-containing capsules. She also gave cyanide to her two nieces, NKD (8 years old, her sister's child) and NHN (13 years old, her brother's child), leading to their deaths.

Investigators seized a plastic bottle hidden in the cemetery containing 784 grams of white crystals. Analysis confirmed it was potassium cyanide.

Regarding the unusual deaths of Bich's biological father, Mr. Nguyen Van H. (69 years old), and his biological daughter, NHM (15 years old), the investigating agency does not yet have sufficient evidence to determine whether they were poisoned with cyanide. However, these two cases are also being considered for further investigation.

The investigating agency determined that Bich committed cruel, sophisticated, and repeated crimes against family members until she was discovered. Recognizing that Bich's character was beyond rehabilitation and reform, the agency concluded that she was beyond education and reform.

"Therefore, the investigating agency found it necessary to permanently remove the suspect Bich from society for the purpose of deterrence, education, and general prevention of crimes related to the use of toxic substances," the investigation conclusion stated.
