General Secretary and President To Lam sent a letter on the occasion of the Traditional Day of Disaster Prevention and Control.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day for Disaster Prevention and Control (May 22, 1946 - May 22, 2026), I would like to extend my warmest regards, heartfelt greetings, and best wishes to all compatriots, soldiers, forces involved in disaster prevention and control, and all collectives and individuals who have always stood alongside us for the safety of the people.

Vietnam is a country frequently and severely affected by natural disasters. However, throughout its history of nation-building and defense, these challenges have forged the Vietnamese character: compassion in times of hardship, unity in adversity, resilience in the face of loss, and the ability to overcome challenges together to build a better life.

Over the past eighty years, since President Ho Chi Minh signed Decree No. 70/SL establishing the Central Committee for Dike Protection, our country's disaster prevention and control work has continuously improved, making a significant contribution to protecting the lives, property, and peaceful lives of the people. Under the leadership of the Party and the management of the State, all levels, sectors, armed forces, cadres, experts, and the entire nation have bravely and proactively prevented, responded to, rescued, and mitigated the consequences of natural disasters. These immense contributions have always been cherished, recognized, and highly appreciated by the Party, the State, and the people.

In the context of climate change, extreme weather events, and increasingly complex natural disasters, I call upon Party committees, governments, localities, and the entire society to continuously uphold the tradition of solidarity, further enhance responsibility, innovate thinking, improve risk management capacity, apply science and technology, strengthen the civil defense system, enhance forecasting and warning, proactively prevent and effectively respond to natural disasters, and build safe, compassionate, and resilient communities for a sustainably developed Vietnam.

I believe that, building on the glorious 80-year tradition, the spirit of solidarity, and the indomitable will of the Vietnamese people, our country's disaster prevention and control efforts will become increasingly effective, contributing to minimizing losses, enhancing community resilience, maintaining social stability, and building and firmly protecting the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

Wishing all compatriots, comrades, soldiers, and those working in disaster prevention and control good health, happiness, and peace; may you continue to uphold your sense of responsibility and dedication to the people, and excellently fulfill the noble tasks entrusted to you by the Party, the State, and the people.
