General Secretary To Lam receives the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore.
On the afternoon of March 26, at the Party Central Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received Prime Minister Lawrence Wong of the Republic of Singapore, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.
General Secretary To Lam welcomed and expressed his pleasure at meeting Prime Minister Lawrence Wong again shortly after the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; he emphasized the important significance of this visit, demonstrating the positive spirit of implementing and concretizing the content and orientation of bilateral relations in the coming time, initiating a new cooperation program between the two countries, and at the same time showing the increasingly close, trustworthy, effective and vibrant relationship between the two countries.
General Secretary To Lam reiterated his positive impressions of Singapore and its people, expressing gratitude for the warm and cordial welcome extended by the Prime Minister, the Government, and the people of Singapore to the General Secretary, his wife, and the delegation during their recent visit to Singapore. He affirmed that Vietnam values Singapore not only as a fellow ASEAN member but also as a key partner and companion in Vietnam's development and international integration process.
Highlighting the important achievements made by both sides during exchanges with Singaporean leaders on the official visit to Singapore, as well as the signing of numerous new cooperation agreements just two weeks after the visit, the General Secretary proposed that both sides promptly further concretize the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries through the signing of the Action Program for implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the period 2025-2030. General Secretary To Lam emphasized the importance of the six pillars of cooperation within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; proposed strengthening cooperation between the two ruling parties and agreed on strategic directions for cadre training.
The General Secretary also welcomed and supported proposals for cooperation with Singapore in the field of green energy and green power grids in the region; and upgrading the VSIP industrial park system towards greener, smarter, and more connected directions. On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam welcomed and highly appreciated Singapore's recent granting of market access permits for Vietnamese agricultural and livestock products, and assessed that the two countries have many favorable conditions to expand cooperation on food security.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong expressed his pleasure at visiting Vietnam for the first time as Prime Minister of Singapore, and immediately after the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He informed the General Secretary about the effective exchange with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and other Vietnamese leaders based on the major directions achieved during the visit. He highly agreed with the important strategic directions for bilateral cooperation in the coming period proposed by the General Secretary, especially the continuous strengthening of political trust, enhancing mutual understanding and strategic coordination through exchanges at all levels and through Party, Government, and Parliament channels; effectively implementing existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms and establishing new mechanisms commensurate with the level of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; promoting economic cooperation, creating new impetus for development, and fostering labor cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. We will continue to coordinate closely to effectively implement cooperation agreements, developing the relationship between the two countries in a substantive and effective manner, bringing benefits to the people of both countries, and becoming a model of cooperation among ASEAN countries.
Agreeing on strengthening consultations and coordination, and supporting each other in regional and international forums, especially ASEAN and APEC, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong reaffirmed Singapore's position on promoting a regional and international order based on international law, consolidating solidarity and unity within ASEAN, and maintaining ASEAN's central role in the region.
The two leaders agreed to further deepen relations between the two ruling parties, maintain cooperation in training strategic cadres, and explore establishing a mechanism for regular exchanges to enhance mutual understanding, share experiences in national development, and lay the foundation for future bilateral relations.
