General Secretary To Lam and his wife embark on a visit to four countries.
This afternoon (May 5th), General Secretary To Lam and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly, along with a high-level Vietnamese delegation, departed for Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Russia to attend the commemoration of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War.
The General Secretary's working visit took place from May 5-12, at the invitation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation, and President Aleksandr Lukashenko of Belarus.
The delegation included members of the Politburo: Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Phan Đình Trạc; Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council Nguyễn Xuân Thắng (participating in activities with the delegation in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation); Minister of National Defense, General Phan Văn Giang; Minister of Public Security, General Lương Tam Quang.
Joining the delegation were: Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Chief of the Central Party Office Le Hoai Trung; members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, Minister of Justice Nguyen Hai Ninh, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan; Assistant to the General Secretary and Head of the General Secretary's Office To An Xo; Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Dang Minh Khoi, concurrently accredited to Azerbaijan; Vietnamese Ambassador to Kazakhstan Pham Thai Nhu Mai; and Vietnamese Ambassador to Belarus Nguyen Van Ngu.

The Russian Federation and friendly countries of the former Soviet Union, especially the Central Asian and Caucasus countries, have traditionally had good relations and have supported and assisted Vietnam in its struggle to defend the homeland in the past and in its current national construction and defense.
For the Russian Federation, this is the first official visit since General Secretary To Lam assumed his new position, taking place in the context of the two countries celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
The visit aims to strengthen political trust, identify new directions to elevate the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia to a higher level; and consolidate cooperation between the Communist Party of Vietnam and major political parties in Russia.
General Secretary To Lam's official visit to the Russian Federation and his participation in the Victory Day commemoration of the Great Patriotic War also demonstrates Vietnam's respect and honor for the immense contributions and sacrifices of the former Soviet Union, and the Russian Federation today, in the great victory against fascism and the steadfast protection of world peace.
For Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Belarus, this is General Secretary To Lam's first state visit to these countries and is of great significance.
The visit strengthens and enhances political trust between Vietnam and its traditional friendly countries; it conveys Vietnam's message and determination to continuously consolidate friendly and traditional relations with the former Soviet Union countries. The visit will also contribute to promoting cooperation through the Party channel between the Communist Party of Vietnam and major political parties in the three aforementioned countries.
These visits also contribute to promoting people-to-people exchanges, affirming the unwavering affection of our people for the people of Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Belarus, traditional friendly countries, elevating relations and promoting comprehensive cooperation...
