(Baonghean.vn) - President Park Geun-hyeHe arrived in Washington on October 13 (local time) to hold talks with President Barack Obama on how to further strengthen the alliance between the two countries and address potential provocations from North Korea.

According to the plan, President Park will have a summit meeting with President Obama on October 16th – their fourth meeting since she took office in February 2013.

Meanwhile, Yonhap News Agency also added that there have long been rumors that North Korea may launch a long-range missile in the coming months – something that North Korea claims is putting a satellite into orbit.

Seoul and Washington view the satellite launch as merely a cover for North Korea to test ballistic missile technology, an act prohibited under United Nations resolutions.

The South Korean and U.S. leaders are expected to discuss how to respond to North Korea's actions and resume long-stalled talks on ending Pyongyang's nuclear program.

The aforementioned negotiations, involving North and South Korea, the United States, China, Russia, and Japan, were most recently held in December 2008.

In addition, Park and Obama are also expected to discuss ways to further strengthen the alliance between the two countries. South Korea is a key ally of the United States, with approximately 28,500 U.S. troops stationed in the country.

The upcoming meeting between the two leaders will be the latest in a series of high-level meetings between regional leaders. Last month, President Park met with her Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in Beijing, followed by a summit between Obama and Xi in Washington.

South Korea, China, and Japan also plan to hold trilateral high-level talks in late October or early November.
